Is My Thai Tv Working In Cambodia

Featured Replies

I want to buy a LCD/LED TV in Thailand for my girlfriend living in Cambodia.

Because there is a difference in the PAL system in the two countries I was asking myself is the 'Thai' TV working in Cambodia?

Can you help me? Thanks!

Very difficult to say, because TV manufacturers often don't publish their tuner specifications. They protect their markets by selling new TVs that are compatible with the TV signal in the country where they are sold.

Some tuners are 'universal', and will work with various PAL/SECAM and NTSC signals, while others are only compatible with the specific type in the country where it is sold.

I notice that in Cambodia, small converter boxes are for sale, which consist of a tuner and a VGA or HDMI output so they can be used with ANY TV with a PC or HDMI input. Here's an example: Converter Box

I would bet, however, that the tuner is not very good, and you would have to use the remote that comes with it, or buy a programmable universal remote.

Probably better-off looking locally...

Good luck.

From the TV Standards site it appears that Cambodia and Thailand

do used different standards. :bah: PAL B/G as opposed to PAL B/M.

However modern TV's use universal decoding chips so you will probably be OK.
