Pattaya celebrates Mother’s Day

PATTAYA: -- Friday 12th August was Mother’s Day here in Thailand, where the entire Kingdom celebrates the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirigit’s birthday. As part of the formal celebrations for this event, in the grounds of Banglamung City Hall, Khun Chawalit, the Chief of Banglamung District led an early morning ceremony which was attended by 80 Buddhist Monks who began with a short religious ceremony, all this in front of a 5 meter high portrait of Her Majesty.

Also on Friday Morning we made our way to the Sattahip Navy Base where a fun run, charity bike ride and mass turtle release took place to celebrate Her Majesty’s 79th Birthday. 800 turtles were released to the wild, including a selection of fish totaling 80,000. Local schoolchildren along with members of local communities took part in the event.

To conclude our initial coverage of local events to celebrate Mother’s Day we also attended Nong Nooch Gardens in Jomtien which held a special Mother’s Day parade featuring their well-trained elephants who entertained the crowds with their skills as they painted Thai phrases on each other wishing Happy Mother’s day to everyone.
