August 17, 201114 yr I've never seen so many really smart kids left speechless. Uh, duh..well, uh... There is a difference that wasn't mentioned here; GPA is capped at 4.0 (some schools 5.0). Income isn't. So what would the income equivalent of 4.0 be? $1 million? $100 million? $1 billion? There could be an additional benefit of giving away (throwing away) a couple points to more intellectually challenged students. For the one who gives it is like donating to charity and might look good on your CV if you could include how many points you gave away. But if you give it to someone and it raises them from a 1.9 to a 2.0 that would be helpful. But if they have a 0.9 and it is raise to 1.0 it would be wasted because the student would still fail. Maybe taxes should be distributed to those who aren't the poorest because that would be a waste (like giving GPA points to someone with a 0.9 GPA). Instead, maybe we should give it to the lower middle class because they could put it to better use.
