PM'S FUGITIVE BROTHER

Thaksin 'puts off' Cambodia visit

By THE NATION

Thaksin Shinawatra has put off his planned visit to Cambodia, but his more controversial trip to Japan next week is on track, with tentative measures already being worked out for earthquake and tsunami victims in that country.

Thaksin has told Kyodo News that he intends to visit areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami disaster in northeastern Japan during his controversial trip to the country next week and see what Thailand can do to help Japan in its reconstruction efforts.

"My intention is to visit the tsunami site to see whether we can render any kind of cooperation or assistance," Thaksin was quoted by Kyodo News as saying.

Thaksin, according to Kyodo News, cited areas where Thailand can help - affected businesses and victims who may want to relocate to Thailand to heal themselves.

"I will write to the Thai government [to urge it] to consider what they can work together [to do] with the Japanese government," he was quoted as saying.

The Japanese government said it granted him a visa based on a "comprehensive" judgement in response to a request from the Thai government, although the Japanese immigration control law does not allow the entry of a person who has been found guilty of a crime and given a jail term of more than one year. According to Kyodo, exceptions can be made, though, with the justice minister issuing a special permit for a person if circumstances allow.

Thaksin was also planning to visit Cambodia, but his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama yesterday said the plan was now off.

Other Pheu Thai sources, however, said it was possible Thaksin could visit Cambodia after his trip to Japan.

"Thaksin is scheduled to visit Japan from Monday to Friday," Noppadol said.

Noppadon said the Democrat Party should verify the facts related to Thaksin's visa before initiating any impeachment proceedings against Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul.

"Don't try to implicate Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra," he said in reference to the allegation that Surapong had Yingluck's backing to request a special entry for her brother Thaksin.

He said the main opposition party should focus on monitoring the government's performance instead of being obsessed with Thaksin's movement.

First impressions of this article.....

It appears old square head is speaking on behalf of the Thai goverment

excerpts from:

Thaksin to assess how Thailand can aid rebuilding

Thaksin, who is scheduled to arrive in Japan on Monday, cited three areas in which Thailand can play a role, including helping businesses affected by the earthquake and tsunami relocate to Thailand and issuing long-stay visas to allow tsunami victims to recover in Thailand.

"I will write to the Thai government (to urge it) to consider how it can work together with the Japanese government" after visiting the disaster areas, he said.

Concerning Thai politics, Thaksin insisted he is not officially involved with the new government led by his sister, saying he only offers advice when requested.

Thaksin said he will keep his distance from the Thai government

Surely he can just pick up the phone and "urge" (read: tell) Yingluck to "consider" (read: do) what he says.

The democrats spent their entire time in office witch hunting and trying to get Thaksin. That's why they were solidly defeated in the election. People were sick of the government being rudderless and nothing being done.

Now they are out of office and are STILL witch hunting and impeding the new government from getting anything done. There should be a severe penalty for anyone launching frivolous charges and wasting so much time.

We can only hope the current government abides by it's promises and doesn't focus on Thaksin. But that seems to be not the case.

1. Just your opinion, many would disagree, the dems in fact did a lot during their tenure.

2. Perhaps you might like to suggest jatuporn for the first legal action for frivolous charges, and for time wasting. He's the role model.

Noppadon: Thaksin Has No Plans to Visit Cambodia

Thaksin's legal advisor said his boss has denied planning a visit to Cambodia as rumored, and suggested that the Democrat Party halt its efforts to seek the impeachment of the new Foreign Minister.

Fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's legal advisor Noppadon Pattama confirmed that his boss has no plans to visit Cambodia between September 19 and 21 as had been rumored.

In addition, Noppadon confirmed that Thaksin will be making a trip to Japan scheduled for August 22 to 26.

Regarding the Democrat Party's plan to seek the impeachment of Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul for assisting Thaksin in securing an entry visa into Japan.

Noppadon added that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had nothing to do with this matter.

The legal advisor suggested that the Democrat Party re-check relevant laws before taking any action.

He said that the Opposition should not be concerned about Thaksin's movements, but instead should channel their efforts towards monitoring the work of the government.

"Thaksin's legal advisor ............. suggested that the Democrat Party halt its efforts to seek the impeachment of the new Foreign Minister."

I'm sure the Democrats are open to his suggestions. They may even have one or two for him.

Since the Fukishima earthquake and its ever growing disastrous aftermath it was clear to me that many more Japanese would be emigrating to Thailand. Only Thaksin would see that as an opportunity to make a quick buck.

They were defeated largely because Thailand doesn't take in enough revenues to fund most of the programs it needs. The Democrats chose not to go deeply in debt (though they did deficit spend for stimulus) to make populist measure a reality. The incoming government has no such qualms. Of those that brought the current government to power, the rich have been promised tax cuts and the poor don't pay taxes anyway. I give it 18-24 months.

Thaksin ‘in Cambodia’

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is set to visit Cambodia this weekend, Thai media reported yesterday.

Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra reportedly said her brother was going to Cambodia on a personal trip and not on behalf of the Thai government, a quote that fueled media speculation about the nature of the as-yet-unconfirmed visit.

Bangkok media touted the trip as an opportunity for the former Cambodia economic advisor to discuss energy concerns.

State-run Thai news agency MCOT cited an unnamed Pheu Thai party source as saying Thaksin would help the Cambodian government negotiate a plan for the joint development of a petroleum venture in the Gulf of Thailand.

My dear friend k. Noppadon is quoted in a 12:14 PM newsflash of the other newspaper as saying today that k. Thaksin is NOT in Cambodia unlike what papers there report. I guess you just can't trust Cambodian newspapers unlike the local ones here in Thailand ;)

I just wish they would vindicate Thaksin and get him back here. Maybe the whingers and worriers would find something else to do. :whistling:

It's going to be like that childrens game "Statues".

Each time we turn-around, we find he has snaked ever closer.

until the final pounce into home-base. (not the DIY store).

Personally I think Thailand may well be able to assist in reducing potential Japanese radiation exposure problems by taking some people from the affected/danger areas until the radiation level is reduced. The fact that Thaksin has seen the opportunity to assist, and may even make a financial contribution, is probably more the reason for his entry visa to Japan being granted than a request from the Thai foreign minister.......of course I may be wrong......

I've got an idea and it could help local unemployment as well. Kasit hasn't got anything to do now, he's finished with upsetting diplomatic relations around the globe and he's no longer in charge with tracking down Thaksin so why doesn't the PTP help him out. He could use his well known stealth techniques to sneak up on Thaksin and slam an electonic tag on him and then everybody would be happy as they would know where Thaksin is every moment of the day. It wouldn't help arrest him but it would keep the democrats happy. Alternatively the PAD could hold Yingluck hostage until Thaksin agrees to update his Facebook Status page on a day to day basis.................

I wonder where he will choose not to visit next, very unfair not knowing how long we will have to wait for the exciting news of the next location he has decided not to visit for the moment......

By now I have the feeling that "of course I may be wrong" is becoming less necessary to be stated. Indeed, my dear, you're wrong!

I think Japan has enough space to assist in reducing potential radiation level exposure problems by moving some of it's own people to areas not effected, keeping them on Japanese territory where they will feel more at home than in some strange country.

The fact that k. Thaksin has seen the usefulness of an unspecified donation for Tsunami victims and somehow got invited by private persons to go watch the area is interesting. K . Thaksin also planned to give a lecture at an educational institute it seems.

The main and probably only reason for his entry visa to Japan is the special request by the Thai government, no more no less:

""The Yingluck government's policy is not to ban former prime minister Thaksin from traveling to any country and it has asked for our help in having ex-PM Thaksin visit Japan and to issue a visa," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference."

I don't know what information sources you use, but this info has been available at this side and worldwide already for many days.

Lastly, we're drifting away from "Thaksin put's off Cambodia visit". If you really want to know ask either k. Noppadon, Ms. Yingluck, or FM Surapong. You might get three different answers though :D

I have no problem with you looking across the top of the pond rubl.......

It seems I was a bit hasty when I wrote

"Lastly, we're drifting away from "Thaksin put's off Cambodia visit". If you really want to know ask either k. Noppadon, Ms. Yingluck, or FM Surapong. You might get three different answers though"

"Yingluck and Noppadon deny Thaksin has been staying in Phnom Penh"

Mind you the 'Thaksin's legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said the former premier was in China' may be corrected tomorrow. Actually all may be retracted tomorrow if history gives an indication :whistling:

Probably a bit hasty in your assessment of the contamination in Japan too......but that would be off topic.....and who's counting anyway
