BELGRADE, MONTENEGRO (BNO NEWS) -- More than 900 cars and motorcycles were set ablaze by an unidentified person in the tiny European country of Montenegro, local authorities said on Friday.

According to police, an individual started a fire in an open field but wind gusts brought the flames to a police parking lot, destroying 765 cars and 142 motorcycles, RIA Novosti reported.

Police, as well as Montenegro's customs agency and criminal investigation department, use the parking lot to store confiscated and towed vehicles. Over 1,000 vehicles were parked in the area when the fire reached the parking lot.

In addition to the vehicles which were completely destroyed, another 48 cars and 150 motorcycles were damaged during the fire. Police called the individual "imprudent and irresponsible" as they continue investigating the case.

The losses in total damage has not yet been determined but is likely to be in the millions.
