No Gambling In Bangkok: Police Commissioner

Recommended Posts

There cannot be any gambling in Thailand, it is against the law and i'm sure the police would would sniff out any sign of a den. Fancy suggesting such a thing and the new government very quick to put everything --(their way) ooops= right. The corruption threat is not there anymore now, 3 cheers for the family being back.:bah::bah:

:whistling: cannot wait for Issan farmers to get the 300 bht min wage as they will spend more time at my bar.:lol:

What this has to do with the new government?

Well arn't you...sorrry, the new government responsible to uphold the law??? so gambling is not the governments responsibility ??.................. or fair play ??? ........... Do all institutions run a separate enterprise as the police appear to do. I've yet to see any post that you wrote that says anything wrong with the new government and it's antics-not forgetting the pre election run up. I see something wrong with that, as an honest person it would be nice if once in a while you spoke about the wrongs going on.

Were illegal gambling dens and police does or says they know nothing about it non existent under the previous government? :whistling:

There is much to much sun since the last two days (too hot, IMHO). Are you going to blame the new government for it too?

There is no excuse for the former government, accepted...BUT that does NOT excuse this tin pot lot, or your feeble excuses for them. I do note most of the time your argument seems always to refer Back to the previous governments faults. always skipping the valid points made on the present P.M.s set up.

The weather ???????????? it's been bucketing it down in Issan for a month now. Issan rules O.K. so it must be their fault

So what the new government has to do with it and for what they are to blame in this topic "(No) Gambling In Bangkok: Police Commissioner"

What are the valid points?

The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said yesterday that he was ready to put down in writing his explanation about Rak Prathet Thai partylist MP Chuwit Kamolvisit's comment that two gambling dens were being run near the Suthisarn and Choke Chai police stations

Love the man.

No doubt there are a few loose bowels in various areas and departments involved in law keeping and administration. Chuwit is in the know and always has been concerning that murky labyrinthine that constitutes the Bangkok Police department.

A classic case of poacher turned gamekeeper.

He may be asking for his own demise...but, good luck to him...

Outspoken Opposition MP Demands Action Against Police Accepting Bribes from Gambling Den

Outspoken opposition MP Chuwit Kamonwisit has unveiled a gambling den in Bangkok that offered police a two-million-baht bribery per day.

He called on the metropolitan police commissioner to deal with the issue.

Rak Prathetthai or Love Thailand party leader Chuwit Kamonwisit urged Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Chakthip Chaichinda, to look into a gambling den in the Rachadaphisek area in Bangkok that offers police a bribery of two million baht a day, or 60 million baht per month.

He showed a video clip during the House discussion on August 23, saying the file, featuring university students and Cambodian staff, was new, as it was recorded on August 20.

Chuwit claimed that after the clip was publicized, those working at the gambling den removed all belongings from the building.

Chuwit went on to say he will now wait for the inspection progress.

But he vowed to come forth with more evidence if the case is not addressed.

He added that the police officer who accepts the bribery is of a general ranking.

Wow! From pimp and thug to snitch and grass. Well done Chuwit, but watch your back.

Edit:

Of course, his new campaign is only because he got p1ssed off in 2003 for being arrested after all the bribes he used to give the police while he ran his massage parlours. Hëll hath no fury like a Chuwit scorned.

Assuming that he has knowledge about this for a little bit longer than since yesterday makes me wonder why he didn't come forward earlier with it, outspoken like he is.

Wasn't T. Shinawatra the one who wanted to legalize it?

Those who benefit from bribes and black money have the highest interest that it stays illegal if people want enjoy some card games.

AS usual it's a bit more confusing than just black or white.

2003-03-26 "Thailand could have its own version of Las Vegas within the next three years, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said yesterday." http://yaleglobal.yale.edu/content/gambling-las-vegas-seen-model

2008-03-03 "Samak mulls making 'lotto' gambling legal"

The 2/3-digit lottery scheme run for a moment, but was scrapped. There were some trials with the usual 'horse manure' from all sides.

K. Chuwit has spoken on police involvement in gambling and other recreational activities many times. Don't remember if he was really specific on each and every location he knew of. Mind you, maybe he was waiting for parliamentary immunity :D

Yes, not the first time that Chuwit talks all the little secrets he knows, hinting what he could reveal if he wanted too.

Not to come straightforward with it makes him more to a blackmailer or at least just a big mouth but not to a decent citizen or how politician should be or these people who got normally called "outspoken".

parliamentary immunity? Will that cover fist fights with journalists live on TV?

Just now k. Chuwit revealed as the OP says. To suggest that he might have profited by not saying anything and even suggest he might not be a proper citizen, seems a clear case of defamation. Mind you, with k. Chuwit's reputation he might just slug you one.

At least there is one who seems not cowed by the police. That should be stressed, not unfounded suggestions he might have profited, not be decent himself <_<

Chuvit ready to expose more gambling den video clips

news2011-08-25_12-13-07_255408250014_Chuvit.jpg

BANGKOK, 25 August 2011 (NNT) – Rak Thailand Party Leader and party-listed MP Chuvit Kamolvisit has disclosed that he still has plenty of video clips in hand after he recently released the first one on a big gambling den alleged to be operating in Bangkok.

Mr Chuvit stated that the first video clip was just to suggest National Police Chief Police General Wichean Potephosree to take action against gambling dens as he denied trying to find fault against anyone. He confirmed that the footage was new and really recorded.

The MP reported that the gambling den was only 100 metres away from the main Ratchadapisek Road and located between Soi Ratchadapisek 14 and Soi Ratchadapisek 16. He believed that it was moved to the area only a month ago, and over two-million-baht bribe was estimated to be sent daily to local authorities.

Mr Chuvit noted that he disclosed the footage because he was confident that the national police chief and Metropolitan Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Chakthip Chaichinda would take action against gambling dens and would not let people down.

The outspoken MP also revealed that big trucks were reported to transport all equipment out of the gambling den after he disclosed the video clip to Parliament on Tuesday. He wished that the police would be working harder in this issue.

Mr Chuvit added that he is ready to provide information to the minister overseeing the National Police Bureau. He noted that he still has plenty of other video clips of gambling dens in other places in both Bangkok and other provinces.

Rumour has it five high-ranking police officers have been transferred to inactive posts pending investigation of Rak Thailand Party list MP Chuvit Kamolvisit's claim in parliament that police operate a major casino in the heart of Bangkok.

Has anyone ever been 'removed' from an inactive post? Thailand may need to create a few more of these posts for fear of running out ;)

I can see a post across the road that looks pretty inactive. It doesn't look like any police have been transferred there yet, either.

I often wonder why those in power dont demonstrate some common sense and simply legalise gambling on a regulated basis it would be a good source of income for the government, possibly even a new toiurist attraction.

The truth of the matter is that gambling takes place in every single soi in every single province throughout Thailand, whether its betting on cock fighting, fish fighting, TV football, unofficial lottery and numerous other things. Tell me one location in this country that it doesnt.

Gambling is a way of life for Thais, its pointlessd trying to stamp it out or deny that it exists. I also doubt that legalising gambling will cause any more casualties of addiction then there are now.

I also wonder what actually constitutes gambling. At the local funfair that visits my town, Hua Hin, once a year you will see many vendors running games of chance. Pop three baloons with three darts and win a price, throw the hoop over the bottle, win a price, is this not gambling allbeit on a small scale wityh no cash reward.

To what extent can you operate such games of chance. is there a maximum prize limit? One could easily envisage how such games could be scaled up even without a cash incentives. Example playing for chips that can be cashed for goods or even gold which is a cash equivalent.

Many commercial businesses offer gold as an incentive prize to purchase goods. You win 1 baht of gold for the 10,000th tube of toothpaste sold

Just curious!

I heard that a previous government wanted to legalize gambling and also turn it into a tourist attraction. But the "odds" were against them.

The same kind of writing that led to University Professors who investigated Gambling in Bangrak district fleeing the country? Only for making this statement the police commissioner should be investigated for links with the Mafia. Of course there is gambling going on. The police simply makes too much money out of it.

If he says there is no gambling in BKK then there isn't-if you believe him

All Thais are aware of the gambling problems =it's rife throughout - my valid point being whoever is in power it is their DUTY to stamp it out, simple as that.

Have most of these dens/casinos got Chinese -Thai connections ?

Of course. Mostly because it takes more organization than figuring out who has to hop on his motorscooter/get in his taxi/put the song taew in gear to take the next fare to their destination.
