Does anyone have experience with vistor visa applications for Thai Ladies to Switzerland .?

Are the Swiss as narrow minded in this regard as the Aussies are? I am not talking about a bargirl type thing ,I am referring to my lifepartner for the past 4 years in a stable relationship.

We are thinking about 3-4 weeks vacation there next year.

It’s been some years since I had the visit of Thai nationals in Switzerland and it was complicated then for them to obtain a visa from the Swiss Embassy on their own, even stricter today. The basic problem is that the Swiss consular officials request a lot of proof that the unmarried lady will return to Thailand after her visit to Switzerland.

Suggestions:

1. Try posting your question in the forum “Visas and migration to other countries”

2. If you haven’t visited the website of the Swiss Embassy in Thailand yet, here it is.

4. Consider the following, which is from swisshelpingpoint.com in Bangkok:

“Wichtiger Hinweis:

- Jeder thailändische Gast muss nun neu und per sofort eine schriftliche Einladung von seinem schweizer Gastgeber vorweisen können. Ohne diese kann der Visa-Antrag gar nicht mehr abgegeben werden.”

In other words, the Swiss consulate won’t even hand out the application form if they are not presented with an invitation letter from a Swiss host.

5. If the two of you plan to travel also to Germany or to any other Schengen country, you will find it much easier to get a Schengen visa from that other country’s consulate. With a Schengen visa, a Thai national can enter Switzerland without the need for a Swiss visa.

6. If the trip is to Switzerland only, my Thai friends usually have no problem getting the Swiss visa through the travel agent from whom they buy the tickets, but that invitation letter from Switzerland is still a must, although the travel agent may be able to arrange it.

7. Another option is to use the services of swisshelpingpoint.com in Bangkok, at a price, but your lady friend will still have the problem of that requirement of a written invitation from a Swiss host.

8. If it’s Switzerland only, a good idea would be to get a Schengen visa for Italy, fly to Milan Malpensa, take a train from there to nearby Switzerland. Lufthansa, Austrian, THAI, etc. offer good fares, I believe. Check with your travel agent or on the Internet.

//Edit: P.S. I see that an invitation letter from Switzerland is not necessary for the Swiss Tourist Visa. Nevertheless, unless your friend lives in Bangkok and can run back and forth to the embassy several times, I recommend that she gets a Schengen visa for another country.
