Casino Brand

Featured Replies

Big C now carries Casino brand products; I've been buying their emmental and brie cheeses, very reasonably priced comparatively.

My only complaint is that it is all in French, I didn't even know what some of it was until I got a flyer in the mail with English describing the products.

Big c carrying their own brand-wow! Take a thai with you next time to read the thai label.

Casino is a French brand, not Big C's own by any means.

Not sure what you mean by this, I read Thai well enough, thanks for the advice though.

They do two type's of brie one about 160bt+ and another 190bt+ the 190 is great.

Well most imported products have a thai label on it - in this case if you can't figure out the french. Anyways thanks for the heads up will have a look next time.

Just started to try some of the cheeses .... seem like good quality and flavour to me and with prices not quite as scary as Tops.

Now I see what you mean, could do, but then I think a lot would be lost in translation. Better for me just to translate the french.

Casino is the majority shareholder in Big C

Then I guess we'd have to say that Big C is part of the Casino brand, not the other way around.

Not sure why you are going on about it for. It's ok, I have been wrong before once as well ;)

Me too,nuff said.

I was a little skeptical about the changeover from Carrefour to Big C, but with the Casino brand I'm actually pretty happy about it. There are some new items and I can't think of anything I could get at Carrefour that I can't get at Big C.

In France, "Casino" products -sometime coming under "Leader Price" brand- are low priced generic articles, which are branded under one of the hypermarket names.

This does not mean that they are low quality, but when holidaying there: I never bought any of them... Too many better choice all over there!

But back here, at my -Bang Yai- ex "Carrefour", I was surprised to find them... and I am very delighted.

Not only for the variety of imported cheeses and cold cuts, their freshness and low prices ; but as well for their extra virgin olive oil -1st cold pressure!-, chocolates, biscuits, a lot of canned food (cassoulet, blanquette, choucroute, petit sale,...)... and also a very nice Cahors A.O.C. wine priced at 299 baht...

By the way, "Central" group is "Casino" -sleeping- partner in Thailand for "BigC" ... Back to early 90's, they started together with "Geant" in Thailand.

For those who remember, they ate "Continent", they ate "Lion's Food"... and now they are just finishing eating "Carrefour"... Maybe soon they are going to eat themselves. cool.gif

I'm a great lover of French cheese, but I have found that the Casino brand isnt nearly as good...tasteways...as the 'Major' brands like Fleur De Lys and Cor De Lion which I can get at Rimping

The Big C prices are attractive but..for instance comparing Casino 'Coulommiers' at 299baht and Cour de Lion at Rimping at 499 baht,I still go for the latter. Almost twice the price I know but if i'm spending on a luxury at least I know I'm going to enjoy it.

Mind you the Big C 'President' Camebert isnt bad and at a price that is slightly lower then Rimping.

I guess "you pays your money and takes your choice" applies.

I will say that Rimping does have an amazing choice of European cheeses, many that I have never heard of...but so so expensive. I do wonder sometimes if their turnover does justify them stocking them.
