ExpatOilWorker
I am going to Phuket for the first time in 10 years and will like a bit of advice on any value for money resorts and suggestions for some local restaurants. I am well aware of all the jetski and taxi scams, but I will be driving so transport is no problem. What I have in mind is a ~2,000 baht resort and some good sea food restaurants within reasonable driving distance from Patong Beach.

PatongPete
As top the kevlar I suggest that you ffocus on the areas known as undershorts
Ping
Some places start high season prices in mid October. Check the websites of your hotel candidate list.

Theo007
I recently stayed at The Poppa Palace Hotel in Patong. Nice clean rooms, good pools, excellent breakfast and friendly staff.
ExpatOilWorker
I was really looking forward to re-visit Phuket again, but with all the bad press recently, I just feel it is not worth it. Will skip Phuket all together.

Will skip Phuket all together. Interesting. You said you were aware of the scams and had your own transport. What, written in the press, would scare off a big, bad oil worker from a tourist resort Island safely visited by millions every year?

Old Croc
I'm calling TROLL I think the kevlar vest crack was the first clue. People who troll by pretending they need advice, have the result of stopping members helping genuine visitors.

What, written in the press, would scare off a big, bad oil worker from a tourist resort Island safely visited by millions every year? No Troll at all and it was a combination of factors. Part of the factor was actually what you mention "visited by millions". I am just not in the mood for crowds right now. Maybe it was just because I started to pay attention to Phuket again, but it all seem like bad press. South African fake money, Marine donation, etc.......is there any good news other then the fact the sun rises every day? I might be back later when the timing is a bit better. The Bangkok flooding is not exactly helping!!!
