You can get a Non Imm O-A Visa for retirement if you have 800,000 Baht in the bank or 65,000 baht monthly income/pension or a combination of the two.

You could also get 12 month retirement extensions in Thailand with the same finances.

You can get a Multi entry Non Imm O Visa based on having a Thai Wife. This would give a stay of up to 15 months but would mean leaving the country every 90 days and returning.

You can get 12 month Marriage extensions in Thailand if you have 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 a month income.

You cannot work with a Retirement Visa/Extension.

You need a Work Permit to work. Many jobs are unavailable to foreigners and finding a company who will take the bother to provide documentation for a Work Permit for someone who wants to earn a little extra is pretty slim.
