The contract at my current school in Phitsanulok province will end on 15th October 2011. After that I will be moving to Bangkok to find teaching work there. I have just been to immigration and recieved another 90 stay on my non immigrant b visa which is valid till December 2011.I am still in the process of finding work in Bangkok so I think there wil be a time when I am inbetween jobs.

I just wanted to ask a few questions regarding what to do with work permit/visa etc...

Do I have to hand my work permit in and what paperwork do I need?

Does my visa become invalid as soon as my contract finishes?

Will I need to exit the country and get a tourist visa for when I am inbetween jobs?

When my 1 year visa was issued I was given a stamp dated till 31st october 2011- does this mean my visa is still valid until that date?

thanks

Please explain where you obtained your visa - because you do not normally get new 90 day stays from Immigration if on a Consulate issued visa. That requires exit of country and return for a new 90 day stay. If you are reporting your address to immigration every 90 days (TM.47 form) you must have an extension of stay and that must be canceled the day your employment ends (although you can obtain a 7 day period to depart for 1,900 baht).

Do you mean you went to Immigration and they gave you the bottom half of an A4 piece of paper, stating that you have to return in December 2011?.

You do not have to hand your WP back.

Thankyou both for your replies

Yes it has been the Tm.47 form I have been filling out everyday.

So If the period of time between when my contract finishes and my next employment is longer than a week do I just go out of the country and come back on a tourist visa until I find work?

Your contract ends on Oct. 15, so that is the day you will have to leave the country or apply for an extra 7 days at immigration for 1,900 baht.

Might be better to just leave the coutnry and apply for a tourist visa and start looking for a new job, as 7 days is not going to cut it and you will need to leave the country anyway.

Yes I think it will probaby be a waste of money to get the extension and better just to leave the country when the contract ends.

Just a quick question regarding the tourist visa. Do you know what documents are needed or is it just passport and photocopies. Also can the visa run be done before the contract ends as it may not be possible on the exact day it ends.
