Hi, looking for buying a bike (not a motorbike) in Koh Samui (I am in Chaweng)

Or can it be rented? It would be for a year.

Thanks !

You can get a good bike from the above shop for about 14,000 thb with front suspension, if you are planning on having one for a year it will be better to buy.

Thanks,

It would be a bike for my wife, just for very short trips (go to the beach, to Tesco...), so I think a such 14000THB is too much. I should have precised...

Thanks!

There is what appears to be a bike shop opposite Samui Town Centre. Sorry but no idea what range of prices they deal in. Biggish place though and imaginatively built out of what looks like shipping containers.

Cheers.

I believe you can use your work permit instead of the letter from immigration, but not 100% sure. Any idea Poorsucker?

For driving license, Yes.

For bike registration , No.

Shop opposite Samui Town Center.

Small shop in Maenam, on the right heading towards Nathon, just before the post office.

In Nathon, again on the right, at the very end of the one way system.

And of course BigC and Tescos.

I am guessing that as you go down my list, the price also goes down.

I seem to remember seeing a bike shop on the left hand side going from Tesco towards Bophut traffic lights. It was after Surat Baansuy, but before the temple.

That will be the one opposite Samui Town Center. A new one. Built from shipping containers.:o (The shop, not the bikes. )

EDIT; apologies Nod, I seem to be repeating everything you say!

the streets between Tesco and the beach are hell on earth on a bike, especially the one with the new roundabout. A car would be more appropriate....

you can use work permit for both options, you could also use your driving license as the adress is at the back of the card but for some reasons DLT @ lipanoi doesn't allow it.
