A lot of tweeple surfing Twitter messages this morning were surprised by some strongly-worded posts supposedly deliverd on @PouYingluck - Premier Yingluck's account on Twitter.

Wow! some real self-criticisms by the PM? Early soul-searching statements? A few of the remarks in the account were about how this government is mishandling the problems of the country.

Soon, the Twitter world was abuzz with questions: "Is the PM's Twitter account hacked?" or "Strange things are happening at the PM's Twitter account" and things along that line.

Within half an hour, the "PM's team" posted an urgent message, declaring that the prime minister's Twitter account has been hacked and that some of the messages posted this morning were fake.

Soon, Pantongtae Shinawatra, the PM's counsin (Thaksin's son) tweeted: "Some people with ill intentions against the country have hacked the prime minister's account on Twitter posting messages that are divisive..."

The PM was in Lopburi to inspect measures to help flood victims. She met angry villagers who have been badly affected by the damage done to Bangchomsri Water Gate.

Hacker takes over Thai PM's Twitter account

2011-10-02 13:12:05 GMT+7 (ICT)

BANGKOK (BNO NEWS) -- The Twitter account of Thailand's new prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, was hacked on early Sunday morning and used to post a series of messages critical of her policies.

The unidentified hacker started posting to Yingluck's Twitter account just before 11 a.m. local time on Sunday. "This is a business. We do it for our allies, not for the Thai people. We work for those who support us, not those who differ from us," the first message read.

A second message said: "Where are the opportunities for the poor? We tricked the poor. We gave them hope to vote so our own groups will benefit." A total of eight messages were sent to Yingluck's 28,000 followers by 1 p.m. local time.

"Thailand needs change. It's time for everyone in this country to wake up. Stupidity must end," the seventh tweet read. A final tweet added: "If she can't even protect her own Twitter account, how can she protect this country? Think about it."

A government spokesperson confirmed that Yingluck's Twitter account had been hacked, but it was not immediately known who was behind it. Some media reports claimed the country's ICT Ministry knows the identity of the hacker.

Yingluck, a top-party list Pheu Thai Member of Parliament, was elected prime minister on August 5 by a majority vote in the House of Representatives. The youngest sister of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra became Thailand's 28th Prime Minister and the first female to occupy the position.

The vote came a month after the Pheu Thai party won a convincing majority in the July 3 election and formed a six-party coalition, controlling 300 seats in the 500-seat House.

Yingluck faces an uphill task to steer the country out of years of deep-rooted divide and revitalize its economy amid the financial situation in the United States and Europe. She has also pledged to restore national reconciliation and unity.

I'm not going to defend the hacking of PM Yingluck's twitter account. That was wrong. To call it 'ill intentions against the country' seems very much overdone as a reaction. I mean a twitter account is personal, but not a state property. :ermm:

: "Some people with ill intentions against the country have hacked the prime minister's account on Twitter posting messages that are divisive..."

An interesting way of putting it.

Obviously, hacking an account is illegal and not defensible.

But the MESSAGES are interesting and reflect what lots of people think.

So what does Thaksin's son really mean? Is he talking about the hacking or trying that old tired tactic of totalitarians, dissent is unpatriotic.

If Pantongthae is Thaksin's son and Yingluck is Thaksin's sister then that would make Yingluck Pantongthae's aunt therefore Pantongthae is Yingluck's nephew and not her "counsin" (sic). A mere detail in this saga. Whew!

Thai PM Twitter account hacked: ministry

BANGKOK, October 2, 2011 (AFP) - Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra came under fire from her own Twitter account on Sunday when it was briefly taken over by an anonymous hacker who accused her of incompetence.

Thailand's Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) ministry said it was investigating the hijacking of the PouYingluck tweet feed for around 20 minutes early Sunday.

Yingluck, the sister of ousted former leader Thaksin Shinawatra, was lambasted on a variety of subjects in eight posts, including her response to recent serious flooding and a number of key government policies.

"How can she protect the country, if she cannot protect her own Twitter account? Think about it," said the final post.

Yingluck, who was propelled to victory in a July 3 election with Thaksin's backing, has put forward a raft of measures, including a rise in the minimum wage, aimed at his poor and rural support base.

One of the hacked posts questioned a high profile promise to give tablet computers to schoolchildren, saying it was no substitute for education reform, while another accused Yingluck and her government of cronyism.

The tweets said that rather than "image building", the premier should look to find long term solutions for two months of flooding that has left more than 200 people dead and inundated huge swathes of the country.

Thailand deployed about 10,000 soldiers on Friday after Yingluck ordered the army to take action to assist flood victims.

The username PouYingluck refers to the Thai leader's nickname, Pou, which means crab.

ICT spokesman Songkran Taechanarong said the ministry was hunting for the hacker and was considering closing the prime minister's twitter account.

Thaksin, who remains a highly controversial figure in politically-divided Thailand, was removed from office by royalist generals in 2006 and lives abroad to avoid a jail term for corruption

28,000 people link to this airhead's tweets - why?

Know your enemy.

That's 28,000 out of 45,600,000 (voting age population as of 2007) or slightly less than 0.00065% of that number to the left.....

I wrote why I follow her. Many of her followers are indeed supporters.

So what does that number then mean?

PM's twitter account targeted by unknown hacker

BANGKOK, Oct 2 - The personal Twitter account of Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday was attacked by an unknown hacker, as the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) minister pressed for an immediate probe on the matter

The premier's @PouYingluck account on the popular microblogging social network was targeted by an unknown person Sunday morning who denigrated, in eight separate posts (or tweets), the Pheu Thai government policies and administration.

In the last post, the hacker also questioned the premier's capacity to protect the country as she failed to even protect her Twitter account.

Pheu Thai party spokesman Prompong Nopparit on Sunday denounced the move as inappropriate, violating the premier's privacy rights and the computer law.

Mr Prompong urged the ICT ministry to probe the case and bring the culprit to the prosecution as the matter was damaging to the premier's image.

ICT minister Capt. Anudit Nakhontap said he has already assigned the Technology Crime Suppression Division to identify the hacker.

"Now [we] know who is the hacker and whereabouts of where they did it but [we] cannot disclose the details as [we] have to coordinate with police to proceed with an arrest," stated the minister.

Capt. Anudit added the culprit tweeted from his/her iPhone and hid the location, but the ministry would speed up the investigation as soon as possible.

The minister said he will hold a news conference regarding the matter on Monday. (MCOT online news)

ICT Ministry claims to know identity of hacker of PM's Twitter account and will hold press conference tomorrow; says hacker used iPhone/ Via@TAN_Network

Will not get far if they use a prepaid SIM card, most do not have any ID on the purchase. I hope the perpetrator did not use their own post paid SIM, then they will be in a big pile of trouble.

Considering the track record of her brother and claims that plane explosions and the planed car explosion attempts on is of a mind that perhaps this purported account hi-jack is not all it may seem.

The hacker who us bright enough to hack into the Twitter account would indeed be well aware that the phone or computer used could be tracked and the owner of said phone or computer would indeed be swiftly apprehended,

The comment, " Black Flag" springs to my mind and I am sure I am not alone in my thoughts either.

That hacker is gonna get crucified!

Maybe they will bring out the 'terrorist' label and give him the death sentence.

Just like the person who faked the tapes of the former-PM ordering the army to kill millions of Red-Shirts ? <_<

They can expect harsh 'tweetment', for their crimes against democracy, saying what some of the voters must now be thinking is just plain unfair, I mean they didn't even give her the six months she wanted !
