As said previously, without knowing how many people in your family, income by itself is meaningless. Someone making 30k but living alone may have nearly the same standard of living as one making 80k but supporting 4 people and paying for school.

The poll should really be changed to per capita income.

Just multiply the figures used in the poll by 12.

The poll results will still be the same though.

I think that the poster meant that the poll should be income per family member. So, should be total income divided by the total number of people supported by that income. That would change the poll somewhat.

OK, that makes sense.

But then you would have to add the income of the other members of the household into the total.

Either I have missed out something big time about expats in Thailand OR people on this forum is full of bs.

More than 85% making over 50t/m.? And 70% making more than 80?

Have I totally misunderstood something, here?

70 or 80 large a month ain't major money.

I'm sure there are some who've padded out their incomes to become part of the 200k+ category so it's in keeping with their puffed-up internet personas but I reckon most are being truthful.

I'd be very, very surprised if close to 10% of westerners here had less than 30k coming in every month.

I'd guess the number would probably be around 2%.

Probably less than that on this forum as they likely couldn't afford a computer or internet connection.

Not to mention the requirements for a yearly extension (married, retirement).

Not everyone in Thailand is an English teacher.

Too low.

When I did the same poll the mods had to increase the upper limit from 250k to 2 million to be able to capture the correct results.

you need to seperate between income earned by being employed in thailand and income earned passively/from outside Thailand.

You combine pension/social benefits/property investment income and yes of course, a large portion of expats are in the 200k range even when they are retired. almost anyone who is working in the West and has the $$ to come live part time in Thailand is also likely above 200k/month.

My guess is that the farang you see going to work in Thailand have general average income ranges of 20k-90k with the average probably around 55k/month. The biggest employer of farang is still teachers at the end of the day imho

I notice one person polled 20-30k....total respect to you sir....that requires proper budgeting.....but you still owe me a beer carmine! laugh.gif

20-30k is really pushing it unless you have a large wedge to fall back on if needed.

Question: If income is earned outside of Thailand, where is the tax being paid?

In the USA, the IRS will withold. I think the same for Canada and Australia.

Or, are some not declaring the income?

It's BS. The average expat has 60k/month to get by on here. I presume most of the 40k & under people have not voted.

What an absurd statement...

Where do you get your numbers from? If you are not a native speaker then that number will drop fast. Besides there are a lot of Americans who have an average salary of 20-25 k.

Why would a Farang work in Thailand for less than a Thai gets paid?

You really need to ask that question ?.....LOL....a hint...nothing to do with experiencing the culture or visiting temples
