Im Confused With The Overdraft And Overdrawn

Featured Replies

hello forumers.. me and my husband is going to apply a spouse visa 2 months from now. im just waiting for him to have 6 mos bank statement. so far he has 4 mos 3 is in positive side. one he said was abit complicated, he said he got paid 25th august then withdrawn £250 to send me the bank deducted the said amount on his savings so he was £170 overdrawn he suppose to be £80 positive. he said the bank keeps changing the end and beginning balance, the next day it then showed his wages. hes telling me he is not overdrawn because he has still the savings of 2500.. im confused and worried that it will affect our visa.. hope someone will neglighten me..thanks

Overdraft is a noun. Overdrawn is the past participle of the verb overdraw.

Example: your account balance is GBP 100 and you write a cheque for GBP 120. The cheque gets cashed and your account is now GBP 20 overdrawn. Your overdraft is GBP 20.

According to what you write in your post, your husband has two accounts. In one account, into which he gets his salary paid, he had a balance of GBP 80. He made a remittance of GBP 250 to you. The new account balance then was GBP -170, ie GBP 170 overdrawn. He has another account with a balance of GBP 2,500. Therefore, the total money in the bank is GBP 2,500 - GBP 170 = GBP 2,330. Nothing to worry about your visa application.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Thanks for your reply Maestro now i know..hehe

My husband only has 1 account where his savings and salary goes in. Im just worried that he got overdrawn i mean withdrawn more than what his salary is but the savings still there. Might mean he is living beyond his means but its the banks fault ie changing the beginning balance statement. i hope it wont affect with our visa as weve been waiting this long now.

As you give the figures in £ I am assuming that you will be applying for a UK visa and have amended your topic title to show this.

The Entry Clearance Officers are aware that people's circumstances mean that on occasions their bank balance may be overdrawn. As long as they are not always overdrawn at the end of every month or if they are they provide confirmation from their bank that the overdraft is approved and being serviced to the bank's satisfaction then there will not be a problem with any visa application.

I suspect from what you say that your husband's bank statements will show that he is in the first group, and that most of his statements will show a positive balance. So, no problem.

Yes 7by7 we will be applying a UK Settlement visa on December after we produce 6 mos positive bank statements. Its really confusing what to do at times especially the financial aspect which is important. Its our only problem so far the 1 bank statement with overdrawn thingy. I shouldn't worry much then as you say no problem. I hope in the end all will turn out will as weve been waiting for ages now. Thanks alot for clearing my mind. I'll see you lot around :)

If you have an arranged over draft with your bank include it with the application, ask your local branch for a letter confirming this.
