Basically the answer is yes, it is still possible to get a non O in the U.K.

However there are some requirements you must meet.

For a retiremnt non O you will need to be 50 years or more.

For a non B visa you will need to engage in business or have a job in Thailand.

If you want a non O based on marriage to a Thai, obviously you will need to be married tgo a Thai and show your marriage license.

The consulate in Hull used to have a very informative website where they spelled out exactly the requirements for each visa.

So to start, go online and do a google or Yahoo search for Hull or Birmingham Thai consulates, and call them if you have any questions.

The "hassle" you mentioned is because Hull used to allow Non O visas based on "living with Thai friends or relatives"...but with no proof required.

That reason is no longer possible...they still may give you one...but to get that visa now for that reason requires either a proof of marriage or maybe a signed letter from the THAI person you will be living/staying with in Thailand and a signed photo-copy of their Thai I.D. card.

But it would be wise for you to check on-line, and then call them if you have any questions.

If you meet their requirements a non O is easy...just have the documents required that they specify and the fee to pay them...and it can be done in less than an hour. I've done it, and I'm an American who didn't live in the U.K. when I got my non O from Hull.

If you do go to Hull, they want you to schedule an appointment first. If you do you get priority over "walk-ins".

:D

P.S. I took the train from London to Hull, stayed overnight in a hotel, then went by taxi to the Thai consulate. Arrived there about 9:45 for my 10:00 apointment and was on my way back to the hotel with my non O multi-entry by 10:45. Just have all the documents they want ready for them.

Hull Consulate is excellent. I would recommend applying for the visa through "special" postal service. It costs 10 pounds - but you're passport and new visa will be back with you two/three days after it was sent. I've done this many times and absolutely no hassle.

The Thai Embassy in London is OK, if your paperwork is in order, but l think 2 day wait. No money proof is required. :)

I went there once and some how didn't have the mrs ID card copy :shock1: , nice lady gave me a FAX number to send a copy from LOS. :)
