Maurizio, hope you find something of interest for you while in Chiang Mai. Would be interested to hear of your experience while visiting the best city in the world.

ChrisP, thanks for directing (us) to the pinned topic area. One question tho, what does 'Off or Off's' mean? I'm not a bar goer nor do I (can I) drink alcohol.

Thanks,

jb

Also, the Doi Boy bar...when you say "Run as fast as you can..." is that TO or FROM? I take it you mean FROM. Is that right?

Hi JB...

The word "off" is the term used to mean "to take the go-go boy/girl away from the bar with you". You have to pay a "bar-fee/fine" to the mamasan of the bar in order to do this. Also sometimes reffered to "Offing" the person... (Bad grammar, I know..!)

Run as fast as you can AWAY from the Doi Bar.. (apparently.)

I'll give a more balanced report of Doi Boy in Chiang Mai. If you know what you want, and can make it clear to the mamasan/manager on duty, you might get exactly what you want (if he's available). I've had the best of luck, and some bad luck there. There are much worse establishments in that neighborhood, such as the one almost across the street from Doi Boy, if it's even open. Adam's Apple is false advertising - the last 4 or 6 boys I took off simply could not perform. The show was great. Haven't been back in over a year. The Dreaded Ned website is fairly complete as of 2002, but that's about it.

But I'm not saying any of those places is a 'classy joint.' Some of the others, that I've visited, are atrociously run as businesses. You can't get the manager, can't get a boy to talk to, and no matter how you phrase it in English, the boy will promise to do A, B, and C even if he doesn't do D or E, either. If you get a good one (as I did with two or three at Doi Boy), don't switch.

I hope that's not too explicit. I'm on my way, tomorrow, to Chiang Mai to meet old acquaintances.
