ISTANBUL (BNO NEWS) -- At least three people were killed on Monday after heavy rainfall caused serious flooding in parts of southern and western Turkey, the Hurriyet Daily newspaper reported. Several others remain missing.

Flooding struck the southwestern province of Denizli where a 60-year-old woman died after being dragged away by flood waters in Karabayır village. In the western province of Manisa, one person was reported dead after four buildings collapsed.

In the Serik district of Antalya province, six people were reported missing in the village of Haskızılören. Rescue workers later recovered the body of one of them while searches are continuing for the other five who remain missing.

In Antalya, three bridges collapsed, severing the connection to numerous villages. The provincial agriculture officer said cotton fields and citrus orchards were severely damaged by the rain but the total extent of the damage was not immediately known, the newspaper reported.

Western and southern Turkey have been hit by strong winds and heavy rains since the early hours of Friday, triggering floods that left hundreds of residences and offices under water.
