What Internet Provider Is Best In The Sticks

Featured Replies

Hi I am moving up to a village near Wawee, I won't be there until after Christmas, but I was wondering what folks are doing for internet out there. I assume broadband is not an option.

I'm way out in the sticks (but not Wawee direction), and have very good wireless internet from TOT.

I am 15 km east of the city and have TT&T and get 7Mbps down and 0.48 Mbps up. That is OK for me.

:unsure::ermm::huh:

Maybe best to ask those living in Doi Wawee, as being so far - possibly 80-100km from Chiang Rai it maybe difficult to get a connection due to so many mountains in that region. Theres nothing you can do until you get here and try all options .

Ok, assuming that we can't get an ADSL connection; what are people using as an alternative.

And ChiangRaiRaider what do you mean by wireless internet from TOT, what is the source of it, how are you billed for it?

TOT landline into the house, wireless modem ADSL in and around the house. Billed monthly by TOT. The mountains don't necessarily prevent ADSL, I think it depends on the distance from the nearest exchange. I'd phone TT&T and TOT, tell them which village you're moving to and ask what broadband services they can offer. Cheers

I am not back in Thailand yet, but I would like to ask a further question.

Is anybody here using an air card or satellite internet? what speeds do they work at? what is the pro/cons of these systems?

My wife tried an aircard up in Chiang Saen and it was awful. So slow it couldn't load a youtube video fast enough so you could watch it. Gave up with it in the end.

Can't comment on satellite from personal experience, but I've heard that it's expensive and not that great.

I used TOT satellite until I had the landline installed.

It was a bit slow and about 1300B a month... been a while now though. Got a monthly bill and went in and paid it.

I'd imaging 7-11 in places like MaeSuai could handle it. Is there a 7-11 at Wawee? Can't remember... :huh:

Certainly better than no internet.
