BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- At least 18 people were killed on Thursday when two bomb blasts hit a market in Baghdad's predominantly Shia neighborhood of Sadr City, local media reported. Dozens more were injured.

Two roadside bombs exploded near a popular cafe at the al-Hay market, killing at least 18 people and injuring 43 others, according to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA). Most of the victims were believed to be civilians.a.

The attack happened one day after two suicide bombers attacked two Iraqi police stations in Baghdad, killing at least 16 people and injuring more than 50 others. In addition, three more people were killed in western Baghdad when a parked vehicle exploded near a local police station. Eleven others were wounded and taken to area hospitals.

Violence in Iraq has dropped significantly since its peak in 2006 and 2007 when the country was embroiled in sectarian bloodshed, but deadly shootings and bombings still occur almost on a daily basis.
