Ed Visa - The Right School (Low Contact Hours)

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a few questions about finding a school/institute to do the ED visa with. I previously read (in an older post) that:

"The cost for ED visa including actual teaching should be ~23.000 baht, then add 1900 baht every 90 day to immigration.

Cost for 'on paper' ED without actual teaching should be ~16.000, but then add 15.000 bribe to immigration, no extra money each 90 day."

I want the visa purely for the visa - not the education. I have studied Thai since I was at Uni overseas and have a masters in it (Thai) already from an overseas uni. I dont really think that I want to be studying Thai anymore, so therefore, my question is; Which school offers the ED with the least contact hours at the lowest price? I am sure the Walen guy will reply here, but please I'm aware of Walen and I would rather others answered this question. I also realise that what I'm asking is beinding the rules with ED visas so anyone thinking of telling me to study cause of some moral obligation can save it (please).

Also I have read some things on here saying that if one gets their ED visa from overseas - as in not in one of the neighbouring countries) they don't have to report to the 90 day thing.... is this true?

I still have 3 weeks before I leave to TH, so there's still time.

Thanks everybody, much appreciated!

You can get an ED-visa if you study in Thailand for at least 4 hours a week. Do note that there is no requirement to study Thai, there areother things you can study. The main thing is that the course is recogised and the "school" can get their students an extension of stay. Chinese language, Thai cooking, Muey Thai are all examples of what is possible.

What you heard about is a mutiple non-ED visa. it is valid for 1 year and during that year you can enter and leave Thailand as many times as you can, but cannot stay longer than 90 days in a row. After 90 days you have to elave but can return the same day, if your visa is still valid.

Most embassies/consulates will require proof that you registered with a school.

Do you live in Pattaya ?

I don't understand why most people are not using this route (maybe they are, lol) vs having the non-imm visa that must be extended at immigration every 90 days. The Multiple non-ED visa seems to be the most flexible and hassle-free. The visa run is 1/2 day or full day. You enjoy the other 89 days. Can get 14-15 months stay out of it with the right planning.

I just wanted to confirm that regular Thai embassies/consulates issue the multiple non-ED visa with no problems. I've only used honorary consulates in the past. I've had to express mail my passport, but i was absolutely sure it would get done. If I could get it done with no hassles at KL or Penang, it would save about $200 in postage/guesthouse fees, and the turnaround time would be quicker.

In the region you will only get a single non-ED, with paperwork from the school. In Europe there is a good chance of getting a multiple non-ED.

The Hull Consulate in the UK, as of last month, will no longer issue multiple entry ED visas. Only single entry.

How do you know that? Is this confirmed?
