Where Is It Flooding ?

Hi Rob and Jonny. Everything's OK in Amphur Sao Noi, Nonthaburi. No problems at all, well apart from a few puddles here and there. The local Khlong is like 8" above bank level, but the locals have sandbagged it pretty effectively. The local administration here seems to have its act together. I have to go to work tomorrow (well today, it's 3am), and my usual route takes me by Kheart, Bang Bua Thong onto Bang Yai Big King (basically the road you mentioned Rob). Any updates on that route. Anyway, the locals have told me of an alternative route into BangYai, skirting the problem areas, so I should be OK. I must admit I was expecting the problem to recede after the weekend, but now I'm not so sure, there's been some disturbing news reports.

<br />Drove from Kanchanaburi to BKK to Saraburi and back yesterday. Major traffic jam at Future Mall Rangsit. Went to Thanyaburi and then via Amphur Ban Na in Nakon Nayok to Saraburi. Return journey my wife called the flood helpline and was told we'd have to follow the same route back. At the turnoff to Nakon Nayok the police had set up barriers and signs on Highway 1 sending us the way we'd came too to get to Bangkok. Going the usual way ( now flooded ) takes about 2 and a half hours. Yesterday Kan to Saraburi 7 hours.<br />

I'm driving to Pattaya from the north, and will be passing through Saraburi-Nakhon Nayok, using HW1 out of Saraburi and HW33 to Nakhon Nayok. Are there bad traffic jams along Saraburi-Nakhon Nayok stretch? Note that I'm not going through BKK but detour via Prachin Buri on HW319.

How was the road today? I plan to try and get back to Khon Kaen tomorrow and will probably have to go via Nakhon Nayok so just wondering if it is still passable? Took me 8 hours from KK to Bangkok on Sunday!! Just hope I can make it back.

Quite a few heavy trucks to negotiate but no traffic jams as as such. The major holdup for me was the BKK-Nakon Nayok stretch.

I don't get it

I remember it was reported that the city will be safe. The mass of floodwater has passed out to sea. The crucial days were over the weekend.

Now we here that the mass of water will arrive within 48 hours of a press conference held last night and further that bkk may not be safe.

Does anybody in the government have any idea what is really going on?

I really don't think so.

In the meantime it's still pretty much ok around thanon Samwa and Minburi.

I'm in a Moo Bahn halfway between Nong Chok and Minburi. The water has begun to rise (from the drains) and the walls we have constructed have been breached a couple of times. According to the media, we are ona flood alert along with Sam Wah and Minburi.

I'm in Floraville 43 kms on Suwithawong Gerinimo and our soi water level rose last week around 30cms but since then it has been steady but I have noticed water amassing on the nothern side of Suwithawong where the land appears lower. I have a dip stick and I minitor our soi water level every 4 hours and the natives standby watching me as though I'm performing rocket science. I've told my wife not to panic but be prepared for a quick exit if need be. It's about time they respected the knowledge of specialist in their respective fields. For example the army chief should be firing the shots in regards to evacuations and getting supplies to stranded people not telling everyone how to solve the flood problems. This crisis is well beyond a cabinet that was selected by means of nepotism and cronyism, so we just have to hang in here and hope for the best.

Water here in my village is rising. So far the village has not been breached but the main road is now at least 20 cm more flooded then in the picture i posted. The middle road is gone too.

I have been helping sandbagging the sides of the village, im sure we can stay dry if we dont get a rain and there water that is coming isnt too much We are north of bkk so maybe much of it has passed us (i can only hope)

Oops. Got the answer to my question. Should have read through the entire thread first. It looks like most of the west side is underwater--not much more can be flooded there. But the dominoes will unfortunately fall on the east side. What happens to all the people, including, maybe, probably, me?

I am in Dechatungha ( the road that runs West for Don Muang police station) and still dry as a bone but noticed yesterday that they had sandbagged the army barrack entrance but by lunchtime today still no sandbags at the Royal Thai Airforce at the other end end of the road, so someone is right I guess, hopefully the airforce !

I'm south of the army base I had confidence they were going to protect this area and it is higher then most surrounding areas by some margin with a lot of open land to fill.

I'm a bit peeved they lost an opportunity do some real good here and have sand delivered to the base and have their soldiers filling them full time and placing them on the vast sidewalk out front for people to pick up, instead they just painted their front gate and have a small tent set up out front for donations it's size and location would have made it a perfect staging point for that sort of operation but they failed miserably it seems.

My missus just told me she's been told about radio reports that there is about 2 feet of water at Zeer Rangsit? I guess I'm not really surprised but that is too close to home for comfort can anyone confirm this? Though there is the Ransit canal just down the road which was over it's banks weeks ago so no real suprise, but if that's true the Airforce may have guessed wrong. The only consolation is that the khlongs around here have been drained down completely (which isn't very far only about 2 meters) with the foulest sewer like stench you can imagine coming out. The place I just saw this at the Tops on Srong bra pa should have it jet-vacced out as soon as possible before they replace the wood decking over it.. Not likely though I'm afraid ..

I'm in Pahonyothin Rd, about 1km from the Air Force FC football stadium. No flooding as yet, but the tannoy in the moo baan last night suggested we move everything upstairs.

This morning at 9:00 water float over the street from Bangbuathomg village to Bang Yai.At this moment about 40 cm on Bangbuathong village. On road about 20 cm. Further on the road in the direction from Sai noi road still dry. By mine village still 50 cm to rise for the problems start.

Think I lost my last post somehow. Anyway it was still dry my end this morning with the Klong lower than normal so must have drained it. Airforce still not sandbagged. Lady in my office just left her house other side of Future Park due to rising water. She said Frontage road not passable at Zeer but highway OK. Take this for what it is worth - my wife just spoke to someone she know at Don Muang police station and they are more concerned with people parking on the U-turn bridges then our immediate area flooding at all ! let's hope they are right.

Any personal experiences of driving from Suvarnabhumi to Korat (or vice-versa) ?

Go straight toward Chonburi , take the exit to Panatnikom and go straight through the town to Highway 331 through Khaoyai National park. No water all the way. Did it last week from Panatnikom to Buriram.

Still no sign of water out Phutthamonthon 3 way--on the south side, that is, as a big puddle does seem to be forming on the north side. My housekeeper and her family came by with sandbags today and helped lay them in. She seems to think water is coming eventually and circled the 26th on my calendar. But this was before Yingluck announced the opening of the gates through Bangkok. Maybe I'll be safe. Maybe not. I still think we're all going to get pretty wet. Better safe than sorry. There are things that go around in the village I never hear about.

You too are near me. I'm in Thaninton village.

Go along your road, turn left at Don Muang police station, go past Grand Canal, and you'll approach the back entrance to my village. The main entrance (off Wiphavadi Rangsit) is half-way between the airport and Zeer.

Lots of concrete flood walls and sandbags being put up around here today!
