Hi guys,

my boyfriend has some kind of problem with his thai visa. we went to immigration office to extend his visa for a month, just until he goes home. and they told us there was some kind of mistake with dates on his second entry. by passport it says that he entered to thailand when his entry date expired. so they send the officer from the border (Padang Besar) of Malaysia to transfer him to malaysia so we can go to penang for new visa. So my question is how to get from Pandang Besar to Penang.. any kind of transportation is ok..

we are leaving tomorrow morning, so this is short notice but i really need help. we went to travel agencies and they cross the border at Sadao, not Padang Besar, and I am not sure will they wait for us, because I am sure it will take some time on the border.

So please please anyone to respond how to get from Padang besar to Penang... i know that there are taxis but we are on short budged because this was unexpected..

Also any comments of getting thai visa in Penang is welcomed.. will they ask for the return ticket? it is tourist visa... i already packed the pictures...

thank everyone in advance.... :)

I think the train goes from Pedang Besar to Butterworth and then a short trip by bus to Penang. Cheap on second class.

Thai Consulate at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Apply at 10 in the morning.

Sounds like he missed entry on his double entry visa, always look at dare utilize/use before date.

Entry to Malaysia end re-entry to Thailand gives you 15 days by land and 30 days by air.

Minibuses go all day from Hat Yai to Penang, if you want a new tourist visa (only single entry visa(60+30 days)).

Train goes once per day.

Ferry from Butterworth to Georgetown

Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman= Abdul Rahman street (Jalan=Street, Tunku=Prince)

Apply before lunch, or better get an agent in Georgetown fix it for 100 baht compared to two taxi trips for 400 baht.

If he from a visa exempt country and only needs 30 days no need for trip to Penang or a visa - just turn around at border (after enter/exit Malaysia) and enter for a new 30 day stay.

He will only gets 15 days at land border.

Only Malaysian nationals who cross the borderline from Malaysia is granted 30 days.

Oops - right if visa exempt it would only be 15 days. There is direct train to Butterworth and ferry connected to that station to get across to Georgetown.

Hey. this is update...

we went to border, and the police took cake of everything and took us to the train station in padang besar, malaysia... i asked about the train and everybody said there is train to butterwoth at 4 (i also read somewhere on internet that it is at 4 and something). but that train skips butterworth and goes to bukit mertajam, so when we go there we just took bus that took us straight to ferry.

in the embassy, they comment something about his picture, that it was not good. even it was, so they send him to take again photo, and they charge us double (they just wanted money). and in the afternoon his visa was ready...

thanks everyone for help.. :)

Photo must be current (within six months is normal requirement) so if the same as old passport photo that might be a reason to require a new one.
