Shops Running Out Of Products

I just went to get a couple of things at Tops, a lot of signs on shelves saying product not available due to floods, same thing at the lotus opposite, the one that surprised me was no bottled water left in packs, only what was in the fridge.

I wonder how long before they can re-stock.

I went shopping in Lotus Thepprasit yesterday and, like the OP said, they were out of bottled water. The space where it used to be is now full of cooking oil, so it doesn't look as if they expect to be replacing it very soon.

I can certainly understand that, clean water is a very precious commodity in a flood hit area, so I am sure it will be put to good use. The odd thing was that all the beer had also disappeared. Are they restocking the flooded branches of Tesco Lotus with beer as well as bottled water? Seems an odd priority, but TiT.

A lot of empty shelves where the rice used to be in Makro this morning, they still have some stock left of the more expensive brands though.

Lotus seem to still have good stocks across the board with only a few empty spaces.

In Hua Hin, KFC has run out of the batter for making "original style" chicken, due to flood. Their delivery web site says no Pepsi available for delivery due to flood. The tentacles of this national disaster reach everywhere! Just wait until the beer supplies start to dwindle. :whistling:

It already has by the looks of it.

The salad, fresh veg and chicken in friendship had been looking very depleted for a few days however when I went this morning it was back to fully stocked.

i was in sizzler in central today for lunch

we were told they had no french fries

i joked with the server that they should nip downstairs and get some from Tops

i saw them being wheeled in later, so i know the manager there and he was saying that these french fries came from the two branches in Rayong province that had closed due to floods and lack of supplies

the manager from Rayong was there too, she looked very despondent

its easy to forget simple things like this when you are not on the front line.......

Makro Buriram - no chips, no streaky bacon, no lettuce, no potatoes.

Regular tannoy announcements apologising for stock shortages.

As another poster said, it brings home the impact the floods are having even if we are dry ourselves.

I had a similar experience in Big C extra in town today(Old Carrfour) basically many normal items were not available and not just foodstuffs so I guess it depends on where the central distribution center is for these companies. Left with my food shopping list untouched and went up the road to foodland !

The Hachiban Ramen Noodle shop in Tuk Com is closed. They have a sign saying closed due to the floods and lack of supplies.

The other 2 branches were also closed today.

My local family mart has everything,..

The supply chain is severely hit, trucks cant get around but as far as basic essentials are concerned, we shouldn't worry too much in Pattaya... The local Thai markets will always have everything..

It's just the trucks with TESCO, Family Mart and BIG C written on them are having trouble making their delivery rounds because of the centralised nature of their operations..

Tesco's logistics are done by Linfox which is an Australian company, I would have thought they have it better arranged.

BigC logistics is carried out by TNT. All four BigC distrubution centres have been closed due to flooding. They are temporarily using other TNT sites and trying to get suppliers to deliver directly to stores. Given the extent of their problems I was surprised how little was missing from the shielves.

Big C use DHL supply chain for most of their product as mentioned here, and they are also having issues.

Beer shortage in the 7/11s around the Soi Diana/Soi Buakow/2nd Rd area yesterday evening. Many brands out of stock. Signs up saying that the distribution centre was disrupted due to flooding, so I think it's more a 7/11 problem than a brewery problem.

Hard to imagine Pattaya without beer.

Was thinking the same thing this morning.

Has the breweries in Ayuthaya been hit by the flooding, or are they still producing ?

I was in BKK yesterday and was surprised to see the neighborhood Seven-Elevens with no water, baked goods ....a lot of empty shelves. True, the warehouses and suppliers for many of our stores/ chain restaurants are unable to restock shelves due to the floods where the warehouses/ suppliers are. Though Pattaya is not in the flood zone, we are affected...and this may last a month or more???

The missus just got the last 4 cans of beer on the shelf in Tesco's Sukhumvit tonight.

Seems like these Aussie companies can't organise the proverbial then?

Indeed, I am sure that a very large and very profitable supermarket chain that manages a complex supply chain across Thailand has no idea about stock control and re-ordering.......

Or maybe, just maybe, it could be the result of disruption caused by the floods.

You would think so but I have previous experience in other countries with very large and profitable supermarket chains and I can tell you that they only think about re-order when the shelves are empty.

The Systems used by Big C and Tesco are actually very good, they also both outsource their supply chain to specialists that have vast experience in other countries. For smaller shops its more a matter of cashflow than not knowing about stock control, the only time they have money to buy new stock is when the old stock is sold or by having suppliers on terms.

I hear San Miguel has run out of stock in Pattaya and no more is due for a while.

Posted

Hmmm,

Funny, I was looking for San Miguel at a few supermarkets and corner stores yesterday and couldn't find any. At least not in the big bottles. Also could not get french fries and the spicy chicken at Sizzler in Central a couple days ago. Come to think of it I couldn't find big bottles of water in 2 separate 7/11's yesterday. Never occurred to me that all those incidents were related to the flooding until I read this thread. Just shows how much we take some things for granted until we can't get it.
