Hi

I'm on holiday in Kanchanaburi and need to get back to Khon Kaen asap. Getting to BKK no problem but what's a current accesible route to Isaan?

Much appreciated.

Refer to another thread here "Bangkok to Isaan 17 hour drive." Although from a few days ago, the information in it may still prove to be helpful to you. Good luck. Keep the fuel tank topped off when you can. Never know when that might become a problem in some places.

Thanks sam

Here's my trip from last Saturday, ex Klong 10 on Hwy 305, 23 km east of Rangsit. I was going to our bungalow 27 km north of Muak Lek on Road 2273, eastern Wang Muang District of Saraburi.

22 Oct 2011

-- Evac from home via home made boat. Toes no better, something akin to “immersion” foot.

-- 1300 hrs, 0 km, ex bridge on Hwy 305 at Klong 10, heading east

-- many cars, buses, and trucks turning off to the north at Klong 14 road

-- 1345 hrs, 23 km, pass by Fern’s school at Klong 16 on 305, looks dry, and Ongkarak

-- 1400 hrs, Km 56-58 marker, two lanes of traffic backed up for turn north to Ban Na-Khaeng Khoi road to meet up with Hwy 2, way too many, continued on east.

-- 1420 hrs, Nakhon Nayok, Km 74 marker, 55 km ex Klong 10

-- 1430 hrs, Prachin Buri junction, 73 km

-- 1440 hrs, Prachin Buri, Khao Yai junction, 78 km, turned left, north

-- 1525 hrs, Khao Yai, top out at the park HQ, 120 km, bad observed aftermath of head-on accident enroute, gotta be careful on this road!

-- 1550 hrs, exit Khao Yai park, north entrance, 138 km

-- 1555 hrs, turn left on Road 1006 down to Muak Lek, 142 km

-- 1620 hrs, arr Hwy 2, 166 km, left to Muak Lek interchange

-- 1625 hrs, arr Muak Lek, 170 km ex Klong 10, buy Bangkok Post, visit Bangkok Hospital Clinic Muak Lek, see SYT doc, ex Khon Kaen med school, POB Korat, get medicine for toes. Bill, baht 459 (b 259 for tube of Candacort cream + b 200 MD fee)

-- 1730 hrs, arr The Resort, 198 km ex Klong 10.

Normal travel time via Klong 10 road is 2 hrs, 130 km; via Ban Na-Khaeng Khoi road is 157 km, 2.5 hrs; this without pit stops of shopping.

NOTE: My routing to day was certainly longer in distance, don’t know about time as don’t know how long it might have taken via the Ban Na-Khaeng road, but given that there was virtually no traffic after that turnoff, my trip was not at all stressful, and it was nice to see the Khao Yai Park again, even if I didn’t stop.

Just call me the “I hate traffic jams!”

Believe both route 305 (link to hgy 1) and 304 (to Korat) are usable from Eastern Ring Road in Bangkok (9) but need to cross Bangkok below Don Muang. 304 has some water but passable at last report I have seen.
