On 27th October 2011, Bangkok residents will get a chance to see conductor John Moore in action when he takes the podium to conduct and act as master of ceremonies of The Last Night of the Proms.

Now in its 6th year, The Last Night of the Proms in association with Rolls-Royce is a celebration of classical music with a quirky British twist. Based on the event that has been staged in the UK for the past 120 years, the Bangkok version has all the traditional pomp and circumstance but in a stunning riverside setting at Shrewsbury International School.

The exciting programme includes works to suit all tastes - choral works including the Handel's Hallelujah Orchestra and Irving Berlin; classic pieces from Offenbach, Strauss and Holtz; and the traditional "prom" elements that get the audience on its feet, singing, waving flags and demanding more.

Seriously it would be nice if it could.....with the 1200 baht a head going to flood victims.

Maybe have to change to Water Music by Handel.

 ...the patrons may get more of "a stunning riverside setting" than they expected

Or it may be cancelled like the rugby tens and other events. These things are scheduled months and months in advance to fit in with the director/participants schedules.

Or The Blue Deluge. B)

I am beginning to have a little (very little) sympathy with sbk.

I started what was meant to be a lighthearted thread among the gloom with the theme of a mistimed announcement of a concert for the upper crust ( at 1200 a head it couldnt be most thais I know) complet with exagerated prose about the riverine setting. What happens...it turns into a hate fest between those who do and those who don't.

All of us do things in different ways so lets have a little sympathy for the poor little students who cannot show their talent.

Or maybe put on some swimming togs and have game of water polo.
