ISLAMABAD (BNO NEWS) -- Ten people were killed on Tuesday when the gas cylinder of a passenger van exploded in northwestern Pakistan, police said. Several others were injured.

The accident happened while the vehicle was on its way from the city of Attock to Jand, which are both located in the country's Punjab province. At least 21 people were on board the vehicle, although the exact number was not immediately known.

The passenger van immediately caught fire after the explosion, killing ten passengers and injuring eleven others who were transferred to a nearby hospital. The cause of the blast was not immediately known.

In July, fifteen people were killed when a gas cylinder exploded on a passenger bus in Islamabad.
