My Wife will require a Schengen visa (Austria) before December.

If the Embassies remain closed due to Bangkok flooding does anyone have any idea of the alternative options for a Schengen Visa application?

i.e......

a) If the Austrian Embassy is closed, what alternatives are there in Thailand ?

i.e. make a hotel booking for in alternative Schengen country and apply at that Embassy / VFS (if that embassy opens before others).

B) There is an Embassy of Austria in Phuket and Chiang Mai, do they accept Schengen visa applications? (we tried to call, they are only open fro 8am to midday, we'll try again tomorrow).

c) Could my wife apply in Singapore (any idea how long that might take?)

d) Could my wife (who already has a UK visa) fly back to the UK early and apply in the UK for a Schengen visa ?

> Some one is bound to suggest that we call the Embassy and ask... The Austrian embassy is not open.

I think you are worrying too much we are at VFS today in Bangkok submitting applications.

My staff say we have no problems at the moment.

Good to know. Thanks for the update.

My Wife and I shall not be in Bangkok until next Tuesday - We're hoping the status remains the same.

VFS Global Thailand's website has been undergoing maintenance and has been erratic these last couple of days, with many pages of information not accessible.

However, tonight, the "news" page is back up and running and states:

"Owing to the floods in Bangkok, the VFS visa application centre will close on Friday 28 October and Monday 31 October for the submission of new applications, as a precautionary measure. Customers with appointments to attend the visa application centre on these days will be contacted by staff to re-schedule their appointments.

The application centre will be open as normal for passport collection between 13.00 and 16.30 on both days.

We hope to re-open the visa application centre for the submission of new applications on Tuesday 1 November. However, customers should check this website for updates before making their journey to the VFS visa application centre, as the closure may be extended.

Customers with a genuinely urgent or compassionate need to travel should contact the visa information service on +66 2-800-8050 or email [email protected]"

...which is a bummer as wifey wanted to get her visa application in tomorrow (28th).

Hope this info helps someone.

Excellent information thanks.

My wife has to visit the Austrain embassy in Sathorn for her visa application. Fingers crossed that the area is not flooded next week.

Very good information. I'm hoping to head up to Bangkok next Thursday to submit tourist visa. My fingers are also crossed. I can afford to put it back for a couple of weeks if necessary.
