FROC Warns Bangkok Residents to Evacuate to Upcountry Provinces

The Flood Relief Operations Center (FROC) spokesperson, Thongtong Chantrangsu announced there will be great challenges to accommodate a large number of Bangkok residents fleeing from the flood crisis and will be forced to evacuate to the upcountry.

Riverside communities, residential neighborhoods built on lowland areas, crowded communities, and single-story homes remain at high risk of being completely flooded. FROC officials recommended people to evacuate immediately, as too much preparation is better than too little. Residents affected by the flood should be prepared and plan ahead on which location they want to evacuate. Soldiers will then escort the evacuees to their desired destination. Additionally, the Ministry of Transport will assist evacuees to evacuation centers stationed at nine provinces that remain unaffected by the flood.

Thongtong claimed that by advising residents in taking precautionary measures early is recommended, as previously, a lot of residents living at risk-prone areas were not well-prepared. Thus, it made it difficult for authorities to provide help and organize evacuation centers.

Thongtong announced in his speech that: “For this evacuation process, residents are advised to prepare packing for necessary items such as medicine, personal ID cards, flashlights, drinking water, snacks, and dried foods while traveling at long distances. Plastic bags are also recommended to conceal luxury items. Record the names of the elderly or any children living in the family and also list their phone numbers of contact in case they become missing. Also, list the names of people living in the same community as you so that your community leaders are able to send these the names of these people to officials at evacuation centers.”

" .... a lot of residents were not well-prepared. " ..... this is FROC's way of saying .... " .... a lot of residents were not warned in time."

Also because the residents were not well-prepared (or were not warned) ... according to FROC .... "this is the reason why it was difficult for the authorities to provide help and organize evacuation centers" ... ?

I suppose the proposed tearing up of roads may not be of great help to those trying to travel either.

Seems to me that F.R.O.C. is only capable of, and intent on creating mass hysteria with inane announcements rather than being a well organised source of information to the public at large.

Evacuate before arrival of floodwater: FROC

The Flood Relief Operations Centre on Friday urged Bangkok residents living in high risk areas to start evacuating before the arrival of floodwater.

"In several areas of inundation, residents would not move before seeing floodwater, hence triggering chaos and other inconveniences," FROC spokesman Tongthong Chandransu said.

Residents should brace for inundation without being panic, he said.

hmmm .... sounds like he's talking about those people at FROC headquarters.

... has anyone a source identifying routes still open for driving upcountry? ... specifically Lopburi.

Do these official know what would 12 million go and when they go will put a lot of pressure to the location they go. As I understand places like Pattaya is having a lot of problem with so many people who already went there, like food and water shortages.

Again Government recommends things when they don't have a real plan in place

Excellent spin!

Now it's all OUR fault, not their incompetence.

I now agree.

They are VERY COMPETENT at following "The Plan" which is clearly yo do as much damage to the country as possible so nobody can focus on what Taksin is doing or not doing and at the same time destroy the independent farmers of the country so CP will be the king of food production here.

It's all the peoples fault. The ultimate in spin.

Strange, I thought it was the flooding that was causing the chaos and inconveniences in Bangkok and the surrounding areas. Better move all the residents out of Bangkok so as they do not cause chaos and inconvenience to themselves or worse those worthies at F.R.O.C. notably one Tongthong Chandransu

If you come up the ring road to the lam lukka turn off, turn right onto rd 3312, when you come to the 1st T interesection turn left into # 352. This road brings you up to the Rangsit - Nakhon Nayok rd # 305. Turn right, you have 2 choices then. Go to Klong 10 & turn left to Nong Sua # 3261 & follow that all the way & it comes out at Nong Khae beside Phahonyothin Rd. Otherwise keep going up the # 305 until they direct you back towards Highway # 1 along rd # 33. Hope this helps.

Sorry to say, but who are these clowns? Can someone - in the name of the mighty Bay City Rollers- tell them that they should shove it!? 3 weeks in the making and THIS is what you come up with?

Make a LIST of hi-risk areas, NAME evacuation centers IN and OUT OF Bangkok, issue both lists in Thai AND English...

God, do I have to do everything myself?

Seems to be a slight change in focus and FROC are working on a steady evacuation of Bangkok. They have been telling people to leave for several days now, including declaring a holiday to make it 'easier'. One would assume that the first people to leave would be those who could do so easily ie. those with the financial means to secure accomodation such as nearby population centres such as Pattaya.

Now they are appealing to people to move 'upcountry' which I assume is aimed at the large migrant population in Bangkok with family/roots elsewhere.

The hard task will be the next step which is those with nowhere to go and without the financial means to do so anyway. This will be a huge job and, if the situation deteriorates significantly, there is very limited provision made to deal with it by the looks of things.

As indicated previously, I was forced to evacuate my home in Bang Pun, Phatum, without a single word of warning, nor 50,000 troops helping out. Hence we lost everything.

Fortunately, we have a sister who lives in a 3rd floor condo in Bang Na. We got here, and have been safe and have some dried foods and tinned goods.

We are now being told to evacuate, as ALL OF BKK will suffer.

Is this for real? We swam for life once; so do we need to do it again?

Anybody live in Bang Na who can advise as to how to get the real news on the possibility of us being flooded here?

I'm sick and tired of the rigmarole of running, when all we had is lost anyway.

We will be safe on 3rd floor, but my concern is running out of food. Could we be left high and dry (excuse the unintended pun) without food if we stay?

Wifey is in Bangkadi on the 10th floor so no problems with flooding (except the parking where my car submarine is).

The local economy is rallying round so will likely be the same where you are. M/C taxi boys are operating boats to the nearest usable road, she has food for months and access to fuel for the generator.

My biggest worry is supply of drinking water, no issue at present but that cannot last forever.

IMHO (for now at least) she's better off where she is rather than in some evacuation centre, but as always up2u what you actually do.

I've been thinking the same thing for the last day or so. Perhaps they expect people to levitate up country?

Does it really matter if the English used is a bit pidgin in its application. The whole idea is communication , I am sure if I posted in Thai any Thai reading my efforts would probably end up rolling on the floor helpless with laughter,

However they would no doubt have understood my message

It's all about communication with others, none of us can claim to be Einsteins I am sure

Me not food water week 1 long,

I am sure we would all understand that message.rolleyes.gif

They were not prepared because they weren't warned and it was difficult for the authorities to evacuate them to evacuation centres that had not been prepared because there was no transportation available for them. After they were eventually evacuated, often by wading or swimming through filth, corrupt and lazy police gladly facilitated looting of their homes or even did it themselves as a way to improve the evacuees' morale.

The Thai people really seem to be huge inconvenience to the morons at FROC and their puppet masters.

I think that by now, anyone who lives in Thailand or even has anything remotely to do with Thailand knows about the floods and the possibility of having to evacuate. Thus if one is "unprepared", then no amount of Government communication will make any difference.

To hijack a thread just to score cheap points on an Internet forum seems desperate to me.

The most amazing news, at least to me, came from my in-laws who work in Central, Bang Na. They've been told by their employer that anyone who doesn't come in to work as usual while they are still open for business will be cut twice the normal rate while the floods are on, regardless of where they live.

We are in Prawet, just up the road from Bang-na. On the 5th (4th) floor, so no problem. Still dry. Certainly everything as normal. The guy who owns our apartments is constantly being updated and not panicking, also we are friendly with one of Thailands finest, I spoke with him yesterday, he is of the opinion that we will be ok. We have water and food for about a week. There are quite a few boats about, so we are staying put.

...yeah...wll not so fast my friend.

We all of course know about the flood and that we may have to evacuate.

1) many companies are not giving their employees a holiday to get out of town. So...run and loose your job or stay and....what?

2) evacuate where to? Many people do not have the possibility to rent a nice hotel room in Pattaya for 2 weeks or fly down south. So where are the evacuation centers?

3) more on the evacuation centers: they are upcountry, we are told. Where upcountry? And how do i get there? I dont have a car, the bus station is flooded, trains up north are not operating. Are there points to go to and be transported...let's say...by the army?

4) if I do not get out: are there plans for evacuation points after the city is completely flooded?

5) are there any plans to get food and water into a flooded city, if they are not even able to stock up 7's, when everything is still dry?

So, please try not to be a <Snip!>. We all know the water is "ante portas", but we may not all be in a luxurious position to say "Let's go! Just go!"
