CMExpat79
Due to really long and irregular cycles, combines with misscarriage a few months back, I am looking for a way to regulate my cycles without the contraceptive pill. I have just bought some herbal pills from the chemist in Big C here in Chiang Mai, and wondered if anyone has any feedback or knows anything about them, I tried speaking with the doctor at the RAM after the mc but he was no good, and the lady in the chemist when I bought these pills but she basically read the notes on the back of the box, which didnt really help. They were only 70bt for 30 pills, but Im holding off taking them untill I find out more. Here are the details: They are named 'Ya Satree Bua Kaew - Bara Brand Capsules' and you get 30 pink pills 500mg each, Ingredients onthe back include: Curcuma Xanthorrhiza Curcuma aeruginosa Leonurus heterophyllus, I found online this is maybe mother wort? Caesalopinia sappan cassia siamea carthamus tinctorius It says to take 1-2 pills per day, but not when pregnant any insight or has anyone tried these before? do you think I should take every day? I have tries ovulation tests, but with cycles ranging from 30+ days to more than 120+ its a bit of a battle so Im looking for ways to shorten and regulate my cycles so I can then pinpoint ovulation for when we try to concieve again. thanks
fletchsmile
Hello there, Sorry to here about your miscarriage. It's unfortunately quite common. On the other hand there may be some good to come of it down the line. I remember my mum telling me she had had a miscarriage first time round. Knowing that they had originally wanted two children, that meant I probably wouldn't have been here, nor would the two wonderful grand-daughters she has now, or at least different anyhow, as I'm sure the first one wouldn't have been daft enough to wander Thailand I'd think what you are going through is also not uncommon either. One additional suggestion would be evening primrose oil. Its full of EFAs, GLAs etc and useful around that time of the month. It helps with prostaglandins (sp?)which are pre-cursors of hormones that help regulate your body at that time, as well as having ant-inflammatory properties. It also has a lot of other great qualities for other things too if you want to google it. Mrs Smile had heard of the medicine you mention, but couldn't tell me much about it. sawatdeeyesitsme
Sorry to hear about the miscarriage If your wife is having really long, irregular periods, it maybe something like PCOS. I'd agree with fletchsmile getting her to take evening primrose oil. To regulate cycles, the best thing I have ever taken was Agnus Castus (sometimes known as Vitex Agnus Castus, Chaste tree or Chasteberry). Good luck. CMExpat79
thanks for your replies, i will have a look for evening primrose oil and maybe try that. i have read about pcos and i seem to tick some of the boxes so to speak. i think i may visit my gp in the new year when we returnto the uk, and investigate more about long irregular cycles and failure to hold onto a pregnancy as of yet thanks again
TigerWan
Black Cohosh or any soy estrogen supplement, which are not available commercially as far as I can tell, in Thailand. Viagra and every other dangerous sexual stimulaters for men, but not a simple plant estrogen for women. Yet another indicator as to the depths of sexism here, There are so many variables, too many to list re but the first question I would ask; is your weight really low, or is your weight fluctuating a lot?
