Of course they are. What, are people stupid. That's exactly why K Thaksin is set to get even more help from his friedn G.W. Bush. One thing that people must see is that if you keep terrorists on the run in their coiunty they'll have a much harder time engaging the cowardly criminal act of terror.

Get U.S. Special Operations people into the south of Thailand and run those bastards back over the boarder, wacking alot in the process I hope.

I've have personally seen a pre teen kid get blown up trying to kill America heros fighting for the freedon of the people in a distant land. The same thing will go on in Thailand,if it is allowed. Boot those thugs across the boarder. Don't let Thailand become a hot bed of criminal terrorist activity. <deleted>, they probably haul ass at merely the though of a Coalition Freedom Fighters headed their way.

When I saw this post my heart dropped. Then I clicked on the link to the CNN article to see what they were about.........but you know...I could not read it as I feel sick to the core........when is the US going to learn that fighting terrorism is a waste of time. Why dont they do something positive for the world instead of screwing every country for all their worth and creating/maintaining poverty thew world over. Their best way to fight terrorism is to change their economic/foreign/environmental and almost all other policies.

Sure big corporations the world over are eagerely playing the same game as the US and benefiting at the expense of the less privileged. this is old news. But why does it have to be this way.

I certainly dont wish to see these headlines blasted all over the world news systems. You watch as it snowballs now....in just a few hours the whole world will be looking at Thailand as a hotbed of terrorism. Tourist/travel agencies will see a reduction in bookings and the whole 2003 scenario will start again. I dont condone violence in any way, but for sure anyone who goes around burning schools and killing people from any background deserves to be put in jail/gaol.

Ned Kelly was a terrorist ! But he was also fighting against tyranny and corruption and was a hero of the people !!

I wonder why this isn't on the front page of the Bangkok Post???

Well, it was on the front page of THE NATION.

Ned

Where have you been for the last 20 years. Are you a member of the Nubian cult

In Georgia USA. Why don't you tell us what they want. One thing they don't want is Farangs in their country. They would prefer to have several wives without the competition of the Farang. Maybe they just want their text books that teach them how bad farangs are to be paid by the government like other muslim countries have done for years. Keep your head in the sand, these people hijacking religion has been going on for years before either of us. One thing they do not want is non muslim farangs so now what do you say.

Well, it was on the front page of THE NATION.

Then to mrentoul and anybody else involved with the Bangkok Post, shame on you. The Nation had the balls to print the truth, why don't you?

I agree that it is terrible news for the country and a number of industries, but with the world's media reporting the basic facts, how long can the Bangkok Post abstain and still be respected?

[...RIDICULOUS GARBAGE SNIPPED...]

Oh PLEASE!!

Now it's the U.S.' fault that there is Al-Quaeda in THAILAND?? Is this for real? Tell me "Ned", just what ISN'T the fault of the U.S. in your mind?

...I can't believe you would actually post such a thing!

WAKE UP--It's not the U.S. that's the bad guy, IT'S AL-QUAEDA!!! ...and no amount of your blame or rationalization can change that fact!

(Admins, shouldn't this be in the Bear Pit)?

The genesis of new terrorism in Thailand lies in the Afghan war when many Thai Muslim youth went to Afghanistan to fight the Soviet-aided communist government in the 1980s, Kitti said.

After the war ended in 1989, Thai fighters returned home -- just as Malaysian, Indonesian and Filipino Muslims did -- and "formed their own organizations" to conduct insurgencies, Kitti said.

Welcome back Chiang Mai Thai.

As to Ned Kelly. Admin, please stick this in the Bear-Pit, and let us at him. I LOVE Fresh meat! :o

My love for Pat Pong was too great to keep me away forever.

Hey, I just wanted to point out that this story was in CNN and the Nation and not the Bangkok Post. Seems strange. I'm not going to pretend I can outline the causes of terrorism for you...

Chiang Mai Thai

Patience, patience jai yen yen.

It took the Bangkok Post 40 years to get rid of "nite owl" you can't expect them to start printing stuff that is relevant to Thailand.

If I were you I would be very careful what you say about mrentoul because as soon as he puts the finishing touched to the weather forecast he will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Thanks. I like to start my day with a good beating from mrentoul. Its happened before. It will happen again. In this case, its really rather straightforward. A very newsworthy fact is reported by The Nation and CNN. The Bangkok Post must have had this same information, but they don't print it. Why? After all, how can you print reports of what happened and then not follow up with a front page article when it is known that there were connections to Al Qaeda? ESPECIALLY, when you know that the Nation and CNN will be reporting these facts.

I'm really interested in mrentoul's reponse here.

I had to laugh at the response saying that the US is the good guy, not Al Queada !! It is not I with my head in the sand you foolish person. I am not saying that terrorists are good or violence is good, but no-one on this planet can honestly say that the US is a good guy. I am sure most would agree.

Shall we look at the Vietnam conflict for example or ask any one of thousands of villagers in Laos or Cambodia about how the ground would shake under thier feet as B52's flew overhead and dropped their paylaods just because they had to land empty in Thailand on their way back from bombing missions in Vietnam. Just a thought. Were they good guys then !! I should think not.

Actually, school bombings, burnings, shooting at the trains etc etc has been going on in the South for the past 15 years that I have lived here. According to my husband this has been going on in the South for as long as he can remember. Everybody knew about it, just didn't talk about it much. And to be honest, there are Muslims all over the South, as well as substantial communities up north. Why does these activities only occur in the deep south, next to the Malaysian border?

As for the Bangkok Post, well, I gave up wasting my 20 baht on that paper ages ago. It used to be good for the comics but then that went down hill too! :o

And well, for the 'blame america for the ills of the world' group, Please move to the bear pit where it belongs!

NedKelly, no matter how amazingly ignorant you are, do you realize that you have just finished trying to prove that "Al Queada " are "the good guys". Are you really quite that stupid?

Admins please send this NedKelly to us down in the bear-pit. We have finished picking at ######'s bones and we are hungry! :o

Well i shall play the fool.

taskin has stated there are no terrorists in thailand and i believe him.

well apart from that hambali guy.

ohh and those guys that ripped off the amoury and burnt down the schools etc,but these will be caught next week or heads will roll, so what would you do if u r in the public eye and have to catch 20 or so terrorists, how much of a loss of face for a thai top dog to be publicly fired? would they resort to fitting up some local muslims as the terrorists,,naaaaa im sure they wouldnt.

would they??

I'm very surprised that mrentoul hasn't defended his postion here. Maybe he knows he knows its the truth and there's little he can do.

In other news, apparently a bomb was left outside Shinawatra silk store in Chiang Mai last night. I can't find a word about it in the news, but as we now know, that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Does anyone have more iformation?

well - a lot of anger here. it seems to me that we have to think about serveral things here.

1) the usa admin (and not the usa people) are over-reacting to every shadow they see and see enemy's everywhere. well the usa right-wing (as with other govenments to) always need an enemy to help control the prols.

2) the media is right wing in the usa and there is no real journalism - just watch fox news - it scares me to death, all their editorial comments and they like 'drama', again, a sure way to control the prols. so the us people are constantly misled.

3) in southern thailand - these wars have been going on for years. is what we are seeing just gangsters fighting with police or muslim terroists or are we just seeing gangsters who just happen to be muslims fighting with police over their criminal activity? and as they are muslims that must surely make them terroists? (fox logic)

4) the muslims are not the cause of the all these problems and bombings but it is reaction to the taking of muslim land by isreal - that is what is at the heart of the matter. would you like it if you woke up one morning and someone had built a village on your front lawn? with armed guards to protect it.

keep it cool - keep it intelligent.

oh and i just want to add, for all those who can't/don't want to make the connection the usa admin. are supporting the militant right wing government of isreal with heaps of dollars and loads of guns. has the penny dropped?

fatty (just got to go see what that noise is outside.. oh only the cat lol)

:o <-------Al Queada terrorist!

Looks more like one of his wives actually.

Mmmm, I think I just had a revelation, its not their religion that turns them into angry violent criminals, its the fact that they have 4 wives.

Sheesh, so simple, I'd be crazy too if I had to put up with 4 wives.

Perhaps fat bald farang ought to add misinformed to his name as well. He claims that the media in the US is right wing. He cites Fox News as being representative of that. While Fox News IMO clearly does lean to the right that is hardly representative of the overall media in the US. It's share or percentage of viewers is rather small when compared to the liberal leaning NBC, CBS, and ABC news divisions as well as CNN. They collectively have a much larger share of the American television news audience than FOX.

When you also consider the FACT that most of the major newspaper media in the US such as the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, etc. are left leaning (which is putting it mildly IMO) the notion of a right wing dominated US media is laughable. IMO they are clearly well left of most US citizens on many issues. You can also say the same thing about much of the major new magazines in the US as well.

Finally, it is presidential election time in America. As a result, those in the Democratic Party (one of the two main political parties in the US) who are running for President are getting a great deal of coverage in the media here. So much so that I am sick of hearing it. The leading candidates have been very critical of Bush and his Middle-East/terrorist policies. The idea that the American people are not getting different points of view about US policy is just nonsense and misinformed. Despite that the American people by a solid majority still support Bush’s Middle-East/terrorist policies. Anybody who says or tries to suggest that a right wing dominated media is intentionally keeping the American people duped simply does not know what he/she is talking about.
