Hi Guys,

Has anyone been for a double entry or single entry tourist visa to Vientienne recently? Are they asking for a outbound flight ticket and hotel details? I heard that this is a new requirement in Phnom Penn but not sure about Vientienne.

Also, are they still issuing double entry tourist visa's? I have many previous tourist visa's but my last one was in 2009, had "Non-B's" for the past 2 years.

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks ;)

See the pinned topic Latest Reports Of Getting A Visa In The Region. The latest report of a double-entry tourist visa at Vientiane I have seen was September 30, single-entry August 12. Savannakhet seems to be favoured now.

If anybody has got a tourist visa from Vientiane more recently, kindly post it here and I shall add it to the list.

I got a double entry tourist visa from Vientiane recently: 8th November. I went with one of the visa run companies. I have a brand new passport. Others had just had one or 2 stamps. All of the people on the mini bus got tourist visas. The only difficult part was the travelling, which is why I ended up going with a tour company: very good service too.

Hey maestro, maybe you can help me here. I am an american theravada monk, ordained here in thailand 3 years ago. I went back to the us and stayed at a thai temple there for a year, then came back here last month. But, like an idiot, i didnt get my non-imm. O visa before i came back. Now i need to go uo to Vientiane to apply for my non-imm. O. I plan to take the train out of Singburi to Nong Khai. Not sure where to go from there. Never made that trip before. Can you give me some advice? Like a reasonable place to stay, applying for my visa and anything else you can think of. Much appreciated.

I'm afraid I know nothing about this. Hope somebody else can help you.

I can't advise you about the visa but you can take the train from Bangkok through to Vientiane nowadays. Wouldn't a monk stay at a temple rather than a hotel in Vientiane? Again, I don't know how this sort of thing works but I don't think a temple in Vientiane would turn you away, would they?

No, they wouldn't turn me away but I've never been to Vientiane so I don't know how far away is the closest temple.

Seriously? How far can you comfortably spit a rat?

There are more Wats than hotels in that place. Google Earth labels 4 within 600m (as the crow, or rat, flies). Hotels: 1

The big one, Si Saket, I passed on my way there, about half an hours stroll from the consulate.

Applied for a double entry tourist visa in Vientiane 8 days ago and got it. No red stamp, no questions asked. smile.png I got a brand new passport in Bangkok a week before while staying on visa exempt because the old one was full and about to expire. The fact I no longer had any previous visa in my passport might have made a difference. I didn't use a visa agency as applying myself seemed straightforward enough.

Compared to Phnom Penh the embassy in Vientiane is much more efficient. Also was totally fed up with Cambodia and all its scams at the border, embassy and all. For instance getting a double entry there yourself is only possible by paying way too much money to an agent. Lao felt much fresher and friendlier. Recommend it to everyone for a visa run, even if you live close to the Cambodian border like me.
