Hi, just a quick question... how can you register marriage in Thailand(a Thai and a foreigner) if you got married abroad? what are the requirements and the process?

Have the marriage registration legalised by your embassy and translated into Thai, next have it certified by the Thai ministry of Foreign Affairs (consular section) and then go to any amphur to have it recorded into the Thai wedding register.

thanks, and does the translation have to be certified too?

You deliver the translation together with the certified wedding registration to the Thai MFA, they staple it together and stamp it.

in my case it is a little more complicated. My husband and I married in Costa Rica so the marriage certificate is in Spanish. We had the document translated to English and certified there with the Consul of Thailand in Costa Rica. However, it was not translated into Thai because it was impossible to find Spanish-Thai translation in Costa Rica. It also happens that there are no Consul of Costa Rica in Thailand,so I am quite confused as of what I can do in this case. From what I researched from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bangkok, to certify the marriage certificate, the translation must be provided by Consul of that country in Thailand. Any suggestions?

You could check if the MFA will accept the legitimisation by the Thai consul, which they should. But it would still need translation into Thai.

If they don't accept that, a websearch found this:
