A Thai friend saw a story in a local Thai newspaper about a Western man killing a Thai man in a fight. Does anyone know which newspaper reported it and the date?

Trying to read and fully understand these translations is very difficult.Maybe the mods could advise why threads like this one get closed down so abruptly.I'm sure I'm not the only one, apart from the OP, who would like to know the reason/s and what caused this tragic loss of life.

Sure.

There was a topic on it on this forum pretty much the next day that already had all the information, but it got closed.

Let's try again; the article is here: Chiang Mai News Article

(Can run it through Google translate to approximate the English meaning)

Well that seems fairly clear - thanks WTK.

Two reasons:

- potential defamation; if you're the source of an allegation in this country and it turns out to be not true (or even if it is true) then you can be in trouble. By requiring there to be a newspaper article any blame gets shifted there.

- mods don't trust TV forum members, probably for good reason. It's arguable if Thai news media are any more trustworthy, but that's the way it is.

The translation is difficult.

Edit: I'll refrain from what I thought I understood. After a 2nd read through, I'm not sure.

Dude who runs Pickles deli goes play snooker in the afternoon.

Gets in an altercation with a guy named Kamol Boonprasert and stabs him with a big knife.

He flees the scene by motorbike, but is later arrested.

The Chiang Mai police saves the day.

So I guess this means the deli is closed?

Probably, but it was never really 'open' to begin with.

All joking aside, someone lost their life in a situation that most certainly could have been avoided. I guess the accused did not understand 'jai yen yen'. Why would an ex-pat walk around with a big knife anyway...

Yea rip to the thai guy.

Did the murderer just have this knife in his belt like croc dundee or grabbed the one that just happened to be laying there?

Apparently he carried the knife with him - 1 foot long folding knife! :o

According to the person who translated the news story for me; the Thai man was not killed but stabbed and went to the Hospital.

No further details of his injuries or condition per the news article cited in this thread.

This sentence from the article clearly says that the offended is deceased. Especially the last bit: เสียชีวิตแล้ว siia chee wit laaeo. Siia chee wit is the formal phrase for passiong away and laaeo mens already, ie. already passed away.

RIP

I think the thread earlier that got shut down was about this story here http://www.cm108.com/bbb/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F46953-iaeoaaaaioe-aaoaaeo-uecauoacaoaaeae%2F which turns out to be true. Some US military guy here to train with the Cobra Gold exercises got into a fight with some Thai policeman on Loi Kroh who started waving his gun. The Thai got beat up. I have to read it a little more carefully now to grab the details.

No. You're correct that that particular topic got closed too, but there was an earlier thread on this topic too. A lot of things get closed or removed these days; you may not always see them.

Looks like it was a rowdy Loi Kratong weekend, then !

And yes, initial incarnations of threads that turn out to be true do disappear rather quickly, but then with facts they resurface..... so that we can get the rumor/theory/speculation mill going properly again.

This was another thread about a different incident. I heard that police were in Loi Khroh to enforce closing times and were taking pictures. The US soldier took offence at the picture taking and went for the policeman, policeman took his gun out, policeman got beaten up etc.

In the ex US soldier deli owner story (different incident/ subject of this thread) the Thai was at first injured and taken to hospital, he later passed away in the hospital.

The farang who murdered him fled the scene but someone at the snooker hall had his description and bike reg. no. It also referred to police interrogating the injured man in hospital before he died. But now he is very definitely dead.

Just to get this out of the way. The previous topic was closed as the OP stated it was "gossip" and further posts with indications of rumor which we don't allow. I stated if it shows up in the media, as WTK previous and correctly stated, than I can re-open the topic with the verifiable information. I've read the article and as such it is no longer 'gossip' as far as I'm concerned.

Got it now? ;)

Got it loud n clear Tywais. I was only reinforcing what WTK said, along with the official TV policy. They're both valid topics now.... and like WTK, was playing up (taking the piss on) the ability of forum members to speculate on and gather innumerable details of a story as it unfolds.

And eventually the grain will separate itself from the chaff as it always does - that is the great truth/utility of this forum. With so many feet on the ground gathering info from friends of friends, in the end a clear, true story reveals itself.

I see your point now and nicely worded.

hi, I was the 'gossiper' who spoke to the OP during our pool game last Friday. The incodent occured at a snooker hall ((begins with a C) sorry defermation etc).. approx 3 months ago the 2 men has a coming together. not sure what about apart from snooker involved. The Thai man passed away on the way to the hospital and the American man handed himself into the police 2 days after.

From what I have been told they both had knifes.

hope this clears up any questions

You can say the name now because it was in the newspaper, and because it's not slamming the place for anything. ;) It was "Caesar"; that's how I found the article in the first place, by searching for 'Caesar' in Thai.

The main mistake you made in getting your prior topic closed so quickly was using words like 'gossip' or 'rumor'. That's like writing a blank check to get stuff closed. 'gossip' means different things to different people, but in a Thai legal context it has a very specific meaning and is an offense. If you're sure of your facts, then state it as fact. But then don't mention specific people or the shop the guy ran. And embed it into more text on having to be careful out there and the consequences of resorting to violence, to make the focus more about general advice and caution instead of relaying a single event that the newspapers need two days to get out there.

Then some people replying to your post may still get things closed, but with any luck it runs until the story pops up on the pages of a newspaper or other source outside of Thaivisa.

Before making such accusations against me. Please read correctly. I did not make theOP. I did not spread any rumours/gossip.

As I said, I informed the OP during a game of pool of the events that had unfolded during that day.

Why are people calling the farang a 'murderer'? Perhaps he just 'won'. I'm the last to use the 'innocent until proven guilty' remark, but isn't self defense a possibility here? To all those asking 'what's he doing carrying a knife around with him?' Sounds like he's lucky he had it? I think the better question is , 'what's he doing in a snooker hall?'

Sorry, thought you were the OP. The quoted text was intended for the OP of the earlier message, and to anyone else thinking of posting about an event they wish to relay on the forum. It's not an accusation also. Welcome back to the forum. :wai:
