Astralian Permanent Resident Visa

Featured Replies

I went to the Australian visa processing centre some time ago and as I have been married to my Thai wife for a period of over two years and as we have a two year old son I was informed that I dont ahve to apply for a spouse visa but she applies straight for permenent residency.

Has anyone else heard this?

Also can someone tell me the cost of her applying for permenent residency.

That is incorrect...

She must apply for the spouse visa

http://www.immi.gov.au/

Go to the website and read up on it, you will also find the costs etc there.

You still apply on the same form but if you have a child together and have been together for a particular period of time then your spouse may be given a permanent resident spouse visa instead of having a temporary resident spouse visa first. Our friends have just done this. See the second-last paragraph under "Partners" http://www.immi.gov.au/media/fact-sheets/30partners.htm

My pregnant girl friend came to australia on a tourist visa. We got married just before that ran out , we then applied for a bridgeing visa untill she got her temp visa. Now she has that she is waiting for her permanat. We had nothing to do with spouce or marrage visa's. It all was pretty easy. I do recomend a lawyer. Hope that helps.. good luck.

Stardancer,

what visa was your GF on? It obviously didn't have condition 8503 on it. How long ago was it.

Sounds like you were very lucky

Yes.i have no idea why she did not have the 8503. Maybe it was because we used a visa company in chaing mai "starvisa" and she ticked all the right boxes like good bank account, employed ect. I have many friends who have failed with aplications buttnone of them used companies or lawyers. It was only 2 years ago now but i have been told that they have already changed. They are a lot tuffer now.

I had a lot at stake. I wanted my child bourne in oz so my advice to anyone wanting to bring a thai girl here even on a tourist visa is use a quality visa company in thailand and use a lawyer in australia for any further visa apps.

But i could have been just lucky aswell. Who knows.

Using a visa company had no bearing on the conditions applied to a visa.....
