True Ultra High Speed Internet?

Has anyone tried the True ultra high speed Internet with fiber optics? Went to office on South Pattaya between Tutcom and Friendship Market and my area is available off Thappraya Road. They are advertising up to 9 Mbps download and up to 1 Mbps upload for 699 baht. I currently have BBB and connections have been poor. Has anyone tried True Internet yet? Thanks

This is an excellent question. I have to pay 1600Baht per month for a 2Mb with Sophon. It works much better than the TOT connection I had before, but I find it _very_ expensive. I need something reliable for international Skype connections and I am interested in experiences return with the new TRUE fiber optic offer.

A couple of people have already posted on this forum with ping tests using the fiberoptics. I am very jealous.

Although it was laid outside my house a few days ago and will be live early next year. (I'm not in Pattaya)

If you can then why wouldn't you?.....download speeds in excess of 10 MBPS.....! ohmy.gif

Live football on the laptop without interruption....biggrin.gif

Not sure why everyone is obsessed with high speed internet.... standard connection is fine for normal activities..... unless you spend the day downloading porn

time is my answer

example:

update laptop from microsoft with Dtac Edge Aircard estimated time 5.24 hours

update laptop with True 3G Aircard 38 minutes

gives me more time to watch porn........

William is actually Right here, What are you expecting from these dreamy high speeds? Do you think that General internet browsing / surfing is going to be faster? It wont, A decent 1 to 2 mbps connection will display web pages as fast as you can ever expect

Pages will load the same if you have a big fat 10mbps connection, you will only notice the extra speeds when downloading files, movies etc.. BUT be warned, 3BB and CAT Limit Torrent speed per house connection to 1mbps anyway.

Example: My connection is 8mbps 3BB for 900 baht p/m Its very reliable, But when I am Downloading torrents the total speed of all of my torrents never ever goes over 1mbps (1 meg per second) (even though my settings are set to unlimited)

So William is right, sometimes the big fat speeds are not of any real use. Its tempting to want for one of these 10mbps Fibre optic lines at 5000 baht p/m but i bet its not worth it. Stick to 3BB its good value.

True Move 3G+ Aircard

tested on TV Speedtest to Singapore just now

Last Result:

Download Speed: 5143 kbps (642.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 1336 kbps (167 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 176 ms

having been using a Dtac Edge Aircard and a Hutch dongle for the last three years

so i can tell you with some expertise that True 3G its much faster than either

as an example, i can watch a youtube video with it stopping, stuttering an restarting all the time

browsing is a far more pleasurable experience and despite the cynics opinions, pages load faster, much, much faster......

I am afraid that I do not agree at all with your declaration that CAT throttle bit torrents, I am downloading two torrents at the moment with a total download speed of over 700KB/s which is over 5mbps so disproving your stating they are throttled to 1mbps.

And, I cannot agree with the blanket statement that 3BB throttles torrents, as I *often* exceed 800Kbps torrent downloads on my non-Premier 3BB 9Mbps connection for B900/month. Yeah, sometimes I only get <100Mbps, but that is a function of the available torrent seeds on more obscure files I sometimes download, but with a fresh torrent with 100's of seeds, I easily get >500Mbps on a single torrent, and >800Mbps on multiple/simultaneous torrents downloads.

My browser (Opera) has a plug-in to download YouTube videos, and it often exceeds >800Mbps for a single video download, as well.

I just did a quick test. This is random, on a Sunday afternoon, using uTorrent 3.0. I started two torrents of about 350MB each in size:

I am with 3BB and I disagree about the throttling of Torrents, you must be doing something wrong, its best to download during the night for the best speeds, sometimes fantastic speeds. I am on 12MB for B1400 a month, and can download movies in minutes particularly with Fileserve or Hotfile, but also with Utorrent

Are you still using WinXP? if so this could be your problem, you will need to download a patch to open more TCP connections

I also had the True ultra high speed Internet with fiber optics fitted a couple of days ago - free installation - up to now its fantastic, the guy checked the speed it was over 10MB. Loving it !!!

Much much better than the other internet I had previously, and the customer service was awful, i telephone 5 times, and no one came out to help, but they seemed very interested when i went into cancel my package this AM.

They are very happy to see someone go and give that capacity (for the time being) to someone else. (Sounds like a Ponzi Scheme :whistling:)

lightening fast in Thailand, I have the 100/10 Meg, Naklua.

Fastest download has actually been 100 Meg from an Akamai distribution server in Thailand.

Europe/US connectivity is comparable to most other Premium ISP's in Thailand.

SE Asia is pretty fast, like Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore

Also have achieved 40 Mbps using torrents!

Have been using True Ultra speed internet for just over 2 months. Only signed up for 10/1 Mb service.

Installation fine and on time, service speeds and reliability no problem.

Can stream HD from BBC iPlayer without re-buffering (3.5 Mbs), for me a good test of real world operating. Not a big torrent user, usually download files.

Not sure about it being fibre in Rayong, uses DOCSIS 3.0 with coax locally in the streets and to the house, don't know about backbone though, but still up to 100Mbs available. At thew moment very happy with the service, lets hope it continues.

Why should you need to be sure, and why should we care whether you are? If you were sure, then what?

Do you have to sign a contract with True or can you go month to month like Sophon?

There was a contract involved (12 months I think), they wanted my work permit. (although I know some that have got away without one).

They won't normally install to a rented apartment, but they did not question my rented house.

Any advice on which Air-card to buy? or Which service?

I am at Jomtien and the internet is of very low quality.

Preferably I would be interested in buying a service (3G True | AIS | DTAC)

that works also best in Bangkok.

What would be the best option? and where to purchase this in Pattaya?

Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

I got True-H 3G SIM for my AT&T aircard a few days ago. Near Big C Extra I am getting 4 out of 5 bars, and very fast speeds (compared to Edge). No waiting for each page to load, just click and go. I got the 1GB download package, 349 baht/month, SIM was 49 baht, pay the bill at end of month, 3 month contract to start, renewable monthly. Over 1GB I will pay 2 baht per MB. Other plans for 2GB etc.

Just ran the TV test with Singapore:

Last Result:

Download Speed: 945 kbps (118.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 1347 kbps (168.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 157 ms
