Does Lese Majeste Law Apply Only To Current Royal Family?

I don't wish to be banned from the forum. I just have a question regarding the constitution and article 8 (I believe this is the one regarding criticism of the royal family). It seems to only apply to the current family, not historical figures in the royal family. I have taught social studies in Thailand and recall passages in texts that questioned the wisdom of past kings on different issues. So, are writers of history given more freedom from lese majeste restrictions? I would add this to a post on lese majeste per moderator requests, but all posts on the subject are locked.

I think the law applies to those who have gone before, also. I could be wrong, but be very careful...
