Retirement Extension Expiry

Featured Replies

I am currently on a retirement extension which expires on 16 March next year. I also have an exit/re-entry permit.

In February next year, my wife and I will be touring outside the Kingdom returning to Thailand after the expiration of my retirement extension.

My question is, as I will be granted 30 days on returning to Thailand, will I be able to apply for my second retirement extension or will I have to start the whole process off again, i.e. by obtaining a non-immigrant O visa at say KL?

Regards

Why don't you renew before your trip?

Some offices already allow you to renew more than 30 days before your current extension, especially if you talk to them and explain the circumstances.

Don't forget to get a new re-entry permit.

As said apply for your next extension before leaving.

Yes, I will renew before my trip.

Thanks guys, appreciated.

You don't give exact travel dates here. IF you are leaving Thailand more than 30 days before your current extension expiry, they may deny to accept the extension application. 30 days out you shouldn't need proof of travel; more than 30 days you should definitely bring it. At Jomtien, they are known to accept applications two months early without proof. If you are denied the application, you will need to start over somehow. At some Thai immigration offices you can get an O visa (called change of status) as the first step of a two step process with the second step being the retirement extension. However, with a 30 day stamp you'd be advised to rush in and do that. You don't say what office you are using though. If your Thai office doesn't do it, you can do the first step change of visa status in Bangkok and the second step at your home office. A single entry O from Malaysia or Laos is also an option. Cheers.

Remember that you will also have to obtain a new re-entry permit after you get the new extension of stay.
