It is the youngest known girl to have given birth in the region in recent years. The Philippine government said the young girl was brought to a provincial hospital in Roxas City, located in Capiz province, on Saturday but was later transferred to a hospital in Iloilo province where she gave birth on Sunday. Few details about the case were released by the government, which said the girl had been taken to a hospital in a critical condition but gave birth normally. Officials said the baby boy was born premature after a short pregnancy of just seven months. It was not immediately known who is the father. Earlier this month, a 10-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy at a hospital in the city of Puebla in east-central Mexico. The baby boy weighed about 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds) at the time of his birth and was in a good condition despite his premature birth after a pregnancy of nearly eight months. And in August 2010, a 10-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy at the Cotabato Regional Medical Center in Cotabato City, which is located on Mindanao island in the Philippines. Her 27-year-old father was later charged with incest after he admitted to having repeatedly raped his daughter. Worldwide, the youngest confirmed mother gave birth in 1939 in Peru. A local girl, Lina Medina, gave birth to a boy at the tender age of just 5.
