This project started approximately six months ago. Through it all I made some wonderful Thai friends and shared many ideas. It actually started one day when I was having a bracket for a shelf welded and modified. I had a chance to walk around the shop and observed the tools and equipment the Thai's used in the shop.

I was trying ask a question about a light I saw hanging on the wall. Knowing full and well I had a snowballs chance in hell of getting an answer. I hear one man (Pat) say as though he was my neighbor in Tennessee, "It just a series of led's , controlled by diodes covered in epoxy." With that a picked my jaw back up from the floor and it was Leo Time that evening.

A few weeks before that I had rented a Sidecar "saleng" and I thought I was on a ride at Disneyland. Now about 4 Leos gone each, I explain to Pat what I felt the problem was with Saleng's. He somewhat agreed, but more importantly he understood what I was saying. It is one thing to explain to a Thai that you do not want ice in your beer, but to explain Gyro Steering and Center of Gravity is yet another adventure to under take. With that being said I gave my requirements for a project.

  1. Must stand on it own, bike is used for power and stopping.
  2. Must be Strong and minimum welding
  3. Must be modular with the ability to transform in minutes
  4. Must be easy to steer in either direction
  5. Must be able to disconnect from bike under 10 minutes.

Now for the Photo's , please feel free to comment and critique. I will say that unless you driven this please refrain from telling me how it handles. It drives like a BMW. You can drive this one anytime you like, and then make a comment.

Looks good - a fine job, and good engineering too.

Is it built from Aluminum or steel ??

If steel - sure looks mucho strong.

Great work Mugg. It looks good, and was quite an undertaking for Thailand. Have you gotten into any hassles with the BiB over it? They seem to be touchy with modifications.

P.S. see isn't it much nicer to start a new thread topic than resurrect the dead?

Actually the BiB have driven it a few times and think the idea of the Tie Rod and now added drum brakes (Hydraulic) is quite a good idea.

When I asked what are the specification on a SideCar ? They had nothing on the books about it. So they could not tell me anything in this regards...One of guys in charge took it for a spin and made a 360 turn from traffic lane to traffic lane...

I was recently cited 200 Baht for having my foot pegs out and no passenger on my PCX. so go figger

Does this monster have any breaks in addition to those of the bike? I can hardly imagine how to stop that beast quickly from let's say 50 km/h in case of emergency. :o

Dual drum brakes have been installed, that is going through a re-work now.. Also the Brakes on the nouvo has no problem stopping the Challenger... Only using the rear Brakes at this time...

I have carried 2 other friends on this

1 weighing in excess of 140 Kilo and the second friend was 96 kilo and myself 101 kilo..

I never touched a welder while here in Thailand (where I can be seen).. I visited 5 shops and gave each a small project for a bracket... My intention was to find the best and also a shop that could read a simple drawing.

What's its weight.

it has approx. 12 meters of steel 2x1 CM and 2.3 mm thickness. the exact weight I do not have I will tell you that with the wheels and shocks off. The young lady in the photo stood it up by herself. post-119718-0-10391400-1322549377_thumb.

I have no problem letting anyone try it out. Perhaps on Siam Country Road...

It looks good and I may be in touch with you. My sidecar holding an electric wheelchair and my partner and I is a little prone to aquaplaning on a heavy rain surface. Good to check it out.

Harry,

Anytime I can take you to the shop. I do not sell these myself but I am always looking for new challenges. I will tell you this much, the Challenger was designed to be flexible for handling many types of payloads. I am building a Karaoke platform now. The main idea behind the Platform is to allow for quick change from a Rice or Noodle cooker :jap: to a 4 seater with a beer cooler :partytime2:. You and your partner may drive this anytime you want a test drive. The ramp would be quite easy to install.

Thanks for the Nest to Nest fix .... actually the Trailer is one of the projects I love the most .. where the Bike goes it goes .. once I dropped the bike when I parked in sand and the darn trailer was sitting as to say, "are you guys ready" .. Challenger is also a great ride, anyone is welcome to try anytime..

Would the loaded monster ever get to 50 km/h ?

I must say it looks great, but the poor motor in that little bike

Idea for another project for the OP, build a frame for the bike to fit a 250cc or 400cc motor :D ?

Now I did see not so long ago + was private ? had white plates on so was legal...... Look to me to be a DAIHATSU van with the front missing but roof still on, and a motorbike front... bit like a Tuk Tuk.
