German, 47, dies after drinking beer

The Nation on Sunday

A 47-year-old German DJ died in his room after drinking beer with his Thai and foreign friends in Chon Buri's Sattahip district.

Korber Oelmann's Thai friend Narisara Kansao, 18, said the German was in Thailand on a vacation. He was found dead yesterday after they had a party on Friday night and drank alcohol.

Police said they found no evidence of either murder or physical violence.

Narisara said the German had earlier told her that he was prohibited from drinking under medical advice as it would affect the congenital disease he had. However, she said he overlooked the advice and drank every day.

Police have sent his body for autopsy to the Institute of Forensic Medicine to find out the cause of his death.

I am impressed that an 18 year old Thai girl understands the concept and meaning of "congenital disease." Sounds like the police and coroner, if there is such a person around, putting words in her mouth and/or the reporter's notepad.

A Thai girl says a farang told her that he has congenital disease which may cause his death. In what language did he make this amazing announcement to her ? German,English Thai ? How do you explain the word congenital in german or thai language? Why was she socialising with a short stay farang who she probably couldnt verbally communicate with.? Where did he meet her so quickly and conveniently? I think its a case of the cops wanting to get back to the station to finish their card game. No interregation required.

Ive lived in Bangkok 12 years and i am still alive.I wonder if thats because i dont socialise all that much with kind and caring Thai's...B)

The first few posters have it all figured out so no need to speculate about possibilities. They are very smart these guys donot know the victim or his companion but have it down pat.

Well done... I watch holiday makers and residents drink on antibiotics and against advice from doctors on a regular basis, I couldn't express congenital disease in Thai but could certainly get the concept across!

Knowing my luck if I tried for congenital disease I'd end up in the papers misquoted as having an STD!

The Thais really love farangs because we are never murdered by them in Thailand. It`s either suicide, misadventure, a medical problem or unexplained. It`s only foreigners who murder in Thailand, all the reports prove it.

The con comes first [No hab, no hab, I clean]; the rest comes later, usually a week or so.

yada, yada, yada... who said that a Thai girl used the expression "congenital"? the German must have told her "problem since i was born" and the journalist used "congenital". as simple as that and no need for the usual anti-Thai conspiracies!

Not to forget death-by-crocodile/elephant & the famous green-mambos (or should that be green-mangoes & durian ?), and bungee-jumping without the rubber-band from one's hotel/condo-balcony, it's a dangerous place ! :ermm:

You might want to read the article he said nothing about dying.

As for the rest of your questions are you sure you are living in Thailand.:jap:

The first few posters have it all figured out so no need to speculate about possibilities. They are very smart these guys donot know the victim or his companion but have it down pat.

So, from what we read, a bloke who shouldn't drink, drinks a lot of booze then unfortunately dies. Misadventure eh?

But wait: he was an expat and it happened in Thailand - and he was with a Thai woman! So the TV members of the Sherlock Holmes Society decide that he must have been killed by the evil Thais, because that's what Thais do to innocent farangs. Case solved - arrest the witch!

Now this is an interesting Head Line:

German, 47, dies after drinking beer

I can see the next ones coming, like

British dies after going to bed.

or

Swiss tourist dies after sitting down.

or

Chinese in hospital after breathing.

Seriously, what kind of non-sense headlines can they come up with?

I was told that antibiotics become ineffective if mixed with alcohol. Apparently, the medicine he took was something else, and he should not have drunk alcohol. But he did, and that's all we know form the short story.

We can speculate why he drank alcohol and whether this was the first time in his life (he was 47), but the story does not give any background.

R.I.P. is all I would like to add.

Slightly off topic, but well worth a mention...

Its fine to drink on antibiotics. That old wives tales comes from the days when antibiotics were commonly administered to treat syphilis... being told not to drink was simply a way to deter people from getting wasted, horny and then having reckless drunken sex whilst still being infectious with the disease.

and before anyone jumps in to refute the above info... discuss your opposing evidence with the source; Stephen Fry, QI @ BBC,

So your are suggesting that this talented, bi-lingual young Thai girl who may have been a prostitute in collusion with the local police, planned to target and murder this German visitor. In your relatively narrow focussed mind, who would stand to benefit from this event?

So it IS true! You DON'T get out much.

So the TV members of the Sherlock Holmes Society decide that he must have been killed by the evil Thais, because that's what Thais do to innocent farangs.

And of course, as ever, no need for ignorance of the Thai language to get in the way of a good conspiracy theory. Thais -- even 18-year-old ones -- use the terms 'rook prajam tua' and 'rook kammaphan' all the time. Look in the dictionary and they translate as . . . congenital disease.

Why would a 47 yr old tourists confide in an 18 yr old Thai child about his congenital disease? Seems a little odd but hey. I am sure the Thai authorities will make inquiries with his immeadiate family and his treating doctor back home to support the autopsy findings, very straight forward normal proceedure that any police force will carry out, as it is Step 1 in this type of investigation.

Did the police find any cash in his pocket, or a receipt from an ATM? Did he have a credit card, when they found him? Does his credit card account shows any postmortem turnovers? Did they took the Thai girl to a hospital, to find out if she suffers from a "congenital cleptomanic disease"

Those questions will probably remain unanswerded.

Makes a change from Farang TRIES to FLY from his balcolny

I wondered if anyone has a list of say the last 20 foreigners that died here, why and how-verdict, would be interesting. my sim-modem is so slow cannot get into web/google/etc without being cut off. You see were all not on broadband and in cities--in the sticks is difficult to get signal at times.

It is the existence of the "TV members of the Sherlock Holmes Society" that makes this forum the constant source of amusement, and hilarious irrelevance, that it is. Without the morning chuckle that this forum gives me my day would be less enjoyable. Some of the most hilarious comments are from those who are posting in earnest fuelled by 'righteous indignation' at the Thai culture they have been living with, sometimes for years.

18 year old Thai "friend"? At least he went happy....

I read, AFTER the party, How long after the party, immediately ==early hours=in the morning ????

Who found him ???? and who reported it ???? Would any other farangs know if he was sick during the party, so many vague reporting-facts, and with them being vague is it because as usual nothing at all is given away by the police at all so they don't have to cover up later-easier for them.

Regarding the autopsy report, thats another matter.....................here lies the problem---don't say a word... easier to get a verdict.

If not a conspiracy, then surely its the reporters who are at fault.

Why don't they speak perfect English and ask the police, the girls, her mother and father - neighbors all the questions in the world, so that they can get the story right the first time ?

Always those dam_n reporters..

And medical examiners. They are the worst kind.

I heard, that they all drive Saab's and attend mandatory "we lie about our cases" classes.
