Visa Run To Ranong From Chumphon?

Featured Replies

I need to do a run to Ranong this month. I read in this forum that there is an organized visa trip to Ranong two times daily from Chumphon for about 750 baht if you have your own 10-dollar note. Does it still exist and did someone here use that service? I suppose they use a minivan and speak English. Maybe I could join them at Sawi.

Last year I did the run cycling on my own and slept at a wat, it was a long and beautiful but rather wet trip. This time I would like to do a quick and easy one.

If I remember right Sawi is South of Chumphon. The visa run people go straight across the country to Ranong. You can easily do it on a small Honda scooter no problem. You can then either simply go to immigration and then the pier and jump on a longtail going to Victoria point for around 50 baht and do the same to get back or ride to the Andam club and use their exit point and immigration.

The link above says 2.5 hours to the Andaman Club and the link below implies 2 hours to the main Ranong immigration. How long would it take to both/either when driving by motorbike, assuming you're not driving like a madman?

From the crossroads at Chumphon it is just under 100km,s It is a lovely ride over the mountains to Ranong. I also remember that there is a crossing point near sawi that takes you across the country but isn't as picturesque as the Chumphon crossing, From Chumphon a couple of hours is about right if you are just taking your time. You can either go straight to immigration get stamped out and then just head down to the pier and jump on any longtail heading over to Victoria point for around 50 baht and do the same coming back. The more relaxed option is to head for the Andaman club pier and they take care of everything. Remember to take your camera as there are some stunning scenery.
