jaiyenyen
I was going to post this in another thread, but it's been closed. I have a four year City&Guilds Engineering qualification, a 120hr Tefl certificate, and Thai Culture course certificate. I obtained a work permit a few weeks ago. I've been TEFLing in Bangkok for a couple of years now, and have never had a problem finding a job in a Government school. However, I always felt uneasy as I never had a work permit. I spoke to a friend of mine, and he suggested I visit the British Embassy to sign a statutory declaration. I went to the embassy and declared that the college that I studied my C&G at was now part of a university (True), and that I considered my four years of study, plus my three years teaching experience, was the equivalent to a modern day masters degree. This was stamped and signed by an embassy official. It cost me 2400bht. This declaration, plus my visa, marriage certificates, and a letter of recommendation from my school, was presented to the MoL in Bangkok. A week later I got my WP. I hope this helps. Scott
Thanks that is extremely helpful information. I know of a number of people with somewhat similar educational backgrounds and this may help them a lot.
aidenai
There are three levels of examination. Level 5 Certificate This level focuses on the foundation principles of engineering. It is set at the same level as the first year of a UK degree course. Level 6 Graduate Diploma It is set at the same level as the final year of a British BEng. Level 7 Postgraduate DiplomaIt is set at the final year of a British MEng. Changes to the availability of some of the Engineering Council UK Examinations (9107) from 2010. jaiyenyen
Just to be clear. I passed my C&G around 35 yrs ago. At that time, there was only one level I think. I have two certificates. The first is for a two year Heating and Ventilation course, and the second, a two year gas welding course. I have the original certificates with me in Thailand. Copies of these were presented to the MOL. Replacement certificates are available from C&G.
