Hi there I am currently in Chiang mai on a 12 month Non - Immigrant Business visa training muay thai and travelling.

I went to a travel agency today to organise a run to Maesai, as my three months issued in Phuket has run out.

They told me that if i went to Maesai I would only get 15 Days, this was after looking at my visa. And that I had to go to the immigration office in Chiang Mai to sort out 3 Months.

The were confused and looked to never have seen my visa before.

Ignoring their advice I booked a ticket to Maesai for tomorrow hoping for another 3 months.

Opinions? Advise?

Does you visa say multi entry non immigrant ED? If it does and expiration date has not passed you will get a 90 day entry - but if it says single entry and/or the use before date has passed you will only receive a 15 day visa exempt entry.

Quite true. If it is a one year visa, does he not also have the option of a re entry permit?

No. There is no such thing as a one year ED visa. It is either single entry valid 90 days or multi entry valid one year for unlimited up to 90 day entries (no re-entry needed or wanted). Or a one year extension of stay from immigration in which case re-entry permits would keep it alive for return to the same date.

Let's assume that with "12 month Non - Immigrant Business visa" Yenrac really means a visa (from a thai consulate), not a one-year etension of stay (from an immigration office in Thailand). This still leaves the question what he means with "I had to go to the immigration office in Chiang Mai to sort out 3 Months"

I do not wish to speculate any further on this and second PoorSucker's suggestion that Yenrac should post a copy of the visa in his passport, but he may find this difficult as his Thailand base seems to be in Phuket and he is currently on a touristic visit in Chiang Mai. As an alternative, he could post the full text from his visa.

I changed my mind and am going to speculate after all.

“12 month Non - Immigrant Business visa”

= Non-immigrant visa category B, valid for multiple entries into Thailand within 12 months from its date of issue

“my three months issued in Phuket has run out”

= Yenrac entered Thailand at Phuket airport and was given permission to stay for 90 days, which is the normal period for travellers arriving with this visa

“travel agency…told me that if i went to Maesai I would only get 15 Days…The were confused and looked to never have seen my visa before.

= The travel agency is generally not familiar with Thai visas

“I booked a ticket to Maesai for tomorrow hoping for another 3 months”

= Leave Thailand at Maesai, enter the neighbouring country, return to Thailand and receive a new permission to stay for 90 days. As Lopburi said, Yenrac will get these new 90 days if his visa is indeed valid for multiple entries and if the visa has not yet expired.
