webfact
Photo shows man resembling bomb suspect The Nation The lone suspect in three bomb incidents last week looks remarkably like the Pheu Thai Party supporter seen in a campaign photo standing behind Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung, according to social media observers. Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit said yesterday that he would ask the Information and Communications Technology Ministry to confirm that the photo was possibly doctored to smear the party by insinuating that the coalition leader may have set up the bomb incidents to elicit public sympathy. However, ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap refused to verify the authenticity of the photo, saying the ministry would take legal action only after the police’s own IT division proved that the photo was altered. Citing an unidentified source, the Thailanguage daily Khao Sod on Saturday reported that the suspected bomb planter, Jirawat Janpheng, now in court custody, was a redshirt guard who had become disgruntled over dismay by core redshirt leaders to get him compensated for the deaths of his relatives during last year's protest crackdown by soldiers. The emerging photo, distributed widely among several social networks, shows a man who looks very similar to Jirawat wearing a Pheu Thai polo shirt under a jacket posing behind Chalerm during a party campaign. Chalerm and the party's leadership have not yet commented publicly on the issue. Metropolitan Police commissioner Lt General Winai Thongsong said he would look into the matter once he saw the photo. Police said they were going after two other suspects who might have assisted Jirawat in planting the six bombs at three locations in Bangkok. Police said a search of Jirawat had not been conducted yet due to a legal technicality involving his court custody. Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said the government needed to be transparent regarding the matter, and that it depended on the government whether politics would become critical, through several issues including an attempt to amend the Constitution. Meanwhile, a Pheu Thai opinion survey showed that 1,200 party members believe that a Cabinet reshuffle was not needed now, while a survey by Suan Dusit Poll found that the public thinks that Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit should be the first to be replaced. Spokesman Prompong later said there would be efforts by antiPheu Thai movements after New Year to destabilise or even dislodge the government, with the passport issue involving defacto leader Thaksin Shinawatra as the catalyst. -- The Nation 2011-12-

ramrod711
The wife saw Jirawat nearly every day for a couple of years when he was a coconut seller near our business, she says the photo on the left isn't him. seeing that the guy in the older photo was a red shirt guard, the government should have no problem producing him, thus we would all know for sure. i know that it is against party policy but they have a real opportunity to provide some clarity here. webfact
Pheu Thai Spokesman Defends Deputy PM over Bangkok Bomb Plots The Pheu Thai spokesperson claims there has been an attempt to implicate Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung in the orchestration of the recent bomb plots in Bangkok. Meanwhile, the Democrat Party opposition leader said Chalerm's information regarding the issue is inconsistent with media reports and could confuse the public. There has been a lot of speculation online about a picture of a man wearing a shirt with the Pheu Thai Party logo who was often seen with Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung. The man resembled Jirawat Chanpheng, the suspect in three recent bomb plots in eastern Bangkok. Comparatively, the two do have similar facial features, but Jirawat looks a little fleshier and older. Pheu Thai Party Spokesperson Phromphong Nopparit said the photo was fake and was meant to discredit the deputy prime minister and the government. He called on ICT Minister Anudit Nakornthap to look into the matter and press charges against the person who circulated the photo. Meanwhile, Democrat Party and Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said there is still some confusion concerning various reports on the issue, as the deputy prime minister claimed an anti-government group is behind the bomb plots, though the media is linking the incident to the red-shirt group. Abhisit said the Opposition does not support violence and the government is obligated to maintain order and prevent disruptive incidents, especially during the New Year holidays. He called on the government not to start any conflicts or send a signal that violence is tolerable as an expression of political ideology. Some reports indicated that the suspect was once a red-shirt guard and received bomb-making training in Cambodia. He reportedly joined a group of red-shirt members in a friendly soccer match with Cambodian officials in September. It has been speculated that Jirawat's bomb plots were an act of revenge, as one of his relatives was one of the 91 red-shirts killed in the protest crackdown in 2010. -- Tan Network 2011-12-

KRS1
Chin, lips, nose, mouth, eyes, eyebrows and wrinkle line all appear to be the same. Especially after two years, he had time to gain weight, grow hair, harden his emotional expressions and darken from selling things at the market after being a red guard and now unemployed. You have to take into account the angle of the camera and his current facial expression at the time. The eyes are dead similar, the only part of the face that cannot change do to weight gain. The hairline is also exactly the same, just fuller. If its not the same guy all the red party would have to do is produce the guy in the other photo at the same time with the other guy as was mentioned earlier. slapout
The time gap from the earlier photo with the bomb suspect and Chalerm may be fake/photo shop. but the aging/weight gain of the two do have a similarity in the physical changes. jonclark
Easy way to disprove this. Produce both men in the same room at the same time. Problem solved, surprised Chalerm hasn't thought of this as it would be irrefutable proof the photos wrong.
Gianni77
Even if it was him, there are crazy guys everywhere, unless someone proves he was paid or ordered to do this by someone higher up in the chain of command of the Pheu Thai party, the pictures worth nothing, prove nothing and talk nothing about the party itself. I'm not a supporter of this government, but childish things don't convince me, so if it's him, big deal!!! so it's not, same crap... there are still flood victims and people who need help, focus on their pictures better. Have a nice day everyone!
AleG
Dear Santa Claus: I have only one wish for Christmas. Please please please let this story be true, and that will be the end of Chalerm. Even if so, Chalerm is guilty of much, much worse offenses and he is still around. That he is the acting PM is all there is to know about the moral character of the PTP government. jonclark
One thing I'd like to add. When Chalerm produced this man on Thai TV news, he was very friendly with him. arm around the shoulder, encouraging him and generally very 'matey' and supportive. Just seemed weird a deputy PM being this friendly with a bomber. Instead of bringing the wrath of god for wanting to kill and main Thai citizens on this man, he was sort of saying 'aww don't worry it'll be alright'. Bit like GW Bush shaking Bin Ladens and ans saying "He's okay" Just weird to watch on TV
