MMA fighter Junie Browning surrenders to Phuket Police

PHUKET: -- Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Junie Browning turned himself over the Chalong Police yesterday afternoon.

Mr Browning walked into Chalong Police Station at about 2pm with his lawyer and filed a counter-complaint against Australian Simon Menzies.

Mr Menzies had already filed a complaint against Mr Browning after the pair became involved in a brawl in a bar in Karon.

The two men continued to fight at Patong Hospital, where they were receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the bar brawl, before Mr Browning absconded.

Mr Browning’s arrival came at the public request of the police, as he was wanted for questioning over the incident.

Capt Chianchai Duangsuwan confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that at no time had an arrest warrant been issued for Mr Browning as “it was not a serious case”.

Hoping to resolve the dispute without involving further legal action, police called Mr Menzies and his wife to come to the police station to talk with Mr Browning.

In order to avoid any further confrontation between the two, Chalong Police recommended that Mr Browning leave the police station while his lawyer negotiated with Mr Menzies.

Mr Browning’s lawyer offered to settle through payment of 15,000 baht.

The offer was rejected, as Mr Menzies claimed the damages to his bar cost at least 200,000 baht.

After 30 minutes of fruitless talks, police risked calling Mr Browning to return to the police station to speak directly with Mr Menzies.

The bar owner refused to budge, sticking to his original police complaint of Mr Browning attacking him and damaging his bar.

He also showed police wounds with stitches on his right arm that he said he sustained in the fight after Mr Browning allegedly struck him with a broken beer bottle.

However, Mr Browning maintained that he did not start the fight, and that he only fought back in self-defense.

Mr Browning also stuck to his police complaint against Mr Menzies for attempted murder, stealing his diamond earring and some money, and for trying to extort 300,000 baht from him over the phone in order to settle the dispute.

After the pair failed to reach agreement, Mr Browning flew to Bangkok last night in order to receive treatment at a hospital in Bangkok.

Mr Browning has several stitches to injuries in his head he said were sustained after he was struck twice from behind during the fight – once with a beer bottle and the second time with a glass mug.

He said that he originally planned to fly back to the United States on December 25, but now he was not so sure he would be able to.

Police will now continue their investigation into the two brawls, and Mr Browning and Mr Menzies will meet again in a rematch – but this time in court at a date yet to be set, the Gazette was told.

He should have left already! There hasn't been a criminal complaint filed against him yet. But there will be if he doesn't reach an agreement.

wasn't there a thread yesterday where the Thai authorities said that he wasn't in phuket? No he has made them loose face by giving himself up in phuket.

According to the other news source that we aren't allowed to post about here, he came back on the advice of the Warden for the US Embassy here in Phuket to talk to the police.

Why the big deal. I thought fighting was B150 fine and back to the bar for a beer. This is a civil matter.

In Thailand civil matters become criminal.

They do when there is farangs and money involved.

I wonder if the bar owner is legal and has the proper permits and so on?

Or is it a case that the police can pick and choose which laws to enforce according to what is most profitable at the time?

From what I understand there were 11 people involved in the brawl including 10 other Australiens,

so think it's only fair to split the cost's 11 ways as for sure Browning wasn't the only one causing damage.

My advice to the Bar owner, call the cops next time you want to evict a customer!!

Edit: If the Bar owner started the Brawl then I think the 15K offer is very fair.

Here's a little loss of face for you: lose face. It's lose face, not loose face. That is unless you meant his face was drooping off his bones.

Why can't you post about a news source? I don't understand what I am missing.

I thought he mentioned on his facebook page that he got stabbed with a 6 inch blade? Now it's a glass and a mug? Fishy story either way!

Read the facebook post and his other statement again. He's been pretty consistent. He was stabbed by the bar owner's girlfriend and smashed in the back of the head with a beer bottle and mug. He showed pictures with all the stitches to back it up. Not that fishy actually. Most of the bar girls I know carry knives. He came out with a pure victim story later, but I'm sure that was for the benefit of the police and to give weight to his counter-claim.

I dunno....how many bar owners really want a fight in their bar?

'Outside!' , I can understand.

But really, most owners just want the antagonist to leave....

Julie, sorry, 'Junie' couldnt....'Boy named Sue', chip?

Think a lot of bar owners will try and evict unwanted customers themselves which usually involves force.

Not sure what your issue is with his name?? Guess if he was called Bruce that would be acceptable?

If you being stabbed with a broken glass it could probably feel like a blade?

If he was stabbed he should be making the lawsuit! were any of the other 10 stabbed with a glass?

P.S. Why do Australian bars always make big news? err please tell me this isn't the beer mat bar from last year?

This is really about a disbute between a bone headed thug and a dodgy bar owner.

At the end of the day, who cares which one wins the argument or not? Total non entitiy irrelavant people. These are definately suitable material to appear as guests on the Jerry Springer show with the rest of the trailer park trash.

Best thing is to deport the two of them as undesirable aliens. No one wants these types here, anyway.
