A Question For The Mods

If a thread starts about something over which you have a strong opinion and the thread starts to go astray how do you handle it? Do you step out and let one of the other Mods handle it or do you set your feelings to one side and deal with it yourself? Are there a set of stringent rules that you have to follow or do you have some leeway? Just curious to know how it all works.

Hmmm, well we have some leeway... except for the posted ThaiVisa rules.

Personally I try and put my feelings aside and put it back on track. Also the moderation here really has to be done by someone with a "gay sensibility"... that's why we added PB..

(Not sure I have "strong opinions" about a thread...!)

Do you have something specific in mind, endure..?

Not really. As I said I'm curious as to how it all works. Your PM the other day just set me thinking about the attributes necessary to be a good Mod. It must be quite satisfying to be able to make a contribution to TV other than just posting.

Thanks endure..!

It certainly has its good side... especially as I started this Forum in 2003.. it feels a bit like "my baby"... so I'm a little protective of it sometimes. :o

I've also learned a LOT about gay-Thailand by experience, and I've learned a lot about other areas through TVisa too.. so it's good to give something back.

As in any situation where you're called upon to make decisions, if it's a matter where you have strong convictions/opinions, or a possible conflict of opinion, you get a second opinion from a fellow decision maker. It's not fun to tell people "NO" but I did it in my profession for 25 years, and haven't forgotten how to do it. I enjoy serving a worthy cause, but never enjoy saying "NO."

I have had some moderation experience ( :o ), but in the end I wouldn't enjoy being a moderator under a username I regularly used. As I recently commented to PB, I am not always a person of moderate opinions, and I would not want my responsibilities as moderator to pre-empt my ability to express those opinions.

Chris has been, and PB has been (elsewhere) and should be (here), excellent moderators.
