Do the Thai Embassy in Phuket and Krabi have the same services?

I I have a 60 day tourist visa that I need to extend for 30 days - can I do this at the Krabi and Phuket Embassy or do I need to do this in Bangkok?

Thanks!

You are talking about immigration offices and any office covering the area you are living can provide the 30 day extension of stay - do it a few days early as you lose no time.

Lopburi,

You are very knowledgeable and helpful - thank you!

You say I can do it early - does that mean if my visa is up Jan 20th that I could go on the first week of January before my trip to Ko Lanta without losing any days? That would save us travel money if we can do it early.

Thanks again,

Saki

After reading that somebody asks for Thai Embassy services within Thailand I think some Thaivisa members may need clarification that :

a) an Embassy is the diplomatic representation of one country to another country. Nearly always there will be a consular division incorporated in such embassy. Next to its visa section - service but no obligation to the local population - the activities of a consular section can further be compared with that of a city hall or town hall in the country of origin (matters of birth, death, marriage, nationality, etc,,)

An Embassy is situated in the capital of a country.

b)a Consulate is a regional representation of a foreign country with a visa section and a "city hall/town hall" section.

The foreign high ranking staff members in a) and usually carry diplomatic passports which provides them certain immunities under certain conditions (Convention of Vienna). Others have a "Service Passport" which also provides certain protection to foreign staff members while they are doing their work.

Thai staff members never have any protection or immunities and are subject to Thai Law.

c) a Honorary Consulate is what it says "honorary" and the title of "honorary consul" can be given by a foreign country to any person (local or foreign) with the hope that he or she can returns this honour with valuable services to its citizens, contacts with local authorities and other tasks to be defined by the Embassy in the capital.

Honorary Consuls carry ordinary passports of their country if they are foreigners or ID cards if they are locals and are not entitled to the protections or immunities described under a/ and b/

Some foreign countries are fortunate enough to have very active and helpful honorary consuls in some regions of Thailand.

Okay so maybe I'm mistaken about where to go when I said Thai Embassy. Sounds like I need to go to an Immigration Office. I think I saw a map here.

Does anyone have experience going prior to you visa end date (2.5 weeks in my case) and getting extension without losing days?

You should't have any problem doing your extension 2.5 weeks before your current permission to stay expires and your extension will be from the expiration date of your current permission to stay. You wn't lose any days. I do my retirement extension 3-4 weeks in advance every year. If they ask why you are doing it early tell them about your planned trip.

Immigraiton is closed during the weekend.

You can always extend a few weeks early. An extension will start on the day your curent permission to stay ends, so you won't lose any days.

Edit: The TM-card is the arrival card you got at the border/in the airplane, that is stapled into your passport.

Okay, I do have another related question. wink.png

My girlfriend and I will go to the Phuket to extend our Visa 30 days. Here's my question:

1) We both have a double entry visa and so does my baby son that is 16 months old - do we need to renew his Visa as well to ensure his second entry won't have any problems? I heard baby's don't get any fine for overstay, but I don't want any problems after a border run. I'd love to save 1900 baht and use that for accommodations or travel.

2) Do the copies of the passports need to be in color?

3) Should I have a letter written in Thai explaining why I need to extend my visa before we travel to more remote locations?

The first part of this question is more important I think. Happy New Year!

1. Should not be a problem but if you are going to immigration with the child it might become an issue unless there idea no extension is required (they may suggest it themselves).

2. Should not be required - a few years ago they would not want to accept color considering them forgery items.

3. Most will speak English enough to understand but would not hurt.

Correct - believe it is pointing to the Patong part time location.

The address is correct as 482 Phuket Rd, Talad Tai in Muang Phuket. If anyone has the exact Google location please advise so map can be updated. Believe they still offer some services at the Patong location but it is not the main office.

If I google map this:

Phuket Port Immigration Office

...it seems to point to the large white building near the Vocation Education College on the East side of the Island where the locals say it is.

Thank you, saksiri, for reporting this wrong position of the placemark. I have now moved it to the correct place. Kindly double-check if I got it right: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=214923170432669428134.000465f03d84d91df360b&msa=0&ll=7.869849,98.39393&spn=0.005309,0.008256&iwloc=00046641ea312c7ac9043
