A New Pattaya Beach Mystery

Dec-2011_035_resize-585x438.jpg

PATTAYA: -- Like some mysterious totems left over from a long-forgotten ancient culture, we now have some interesting new additions growing out of Pattaya Beach.

Just what are they doing there is anyone’s guess.

They can’t surely be another scam, can they? You know, "we paid millions of baht out of the budget for these concrete sand-saving devices", or: "hey look at our expensive art installation".

There must be some point to them, surely?

They are so unsightly I cannot believe anyone anywhere in the word would plonk these down on a tourist beach without good reason.

Maybe they are new lifeguard stations, the old scam ones having been destroyed already.

The clever plan for these new ones is that the lifeguard is supposed to perch at the top of the pole all day, thereby giving him a spectacular vantage point for seeing tourists in distress (but not the ones being menaced by jet ski thugs, of course ).

Will be interesting when liquefaction occurs from the sea and the poles come crashing down onto some curious tourists.

they put them there for the fireworks, I guess they forgot to remove them

The poles are there to tether jet-skis. The primary purpose however is check the quality of the zinc coating on the poles in a saline environment for the proposed upgrading of lighting along beach road. There, now we know

they are for the new "quick trip to Koh Larn"

Bungy cord will be stretched down from the top of the posts to a 2 foot square leather seat and visitors will be catapulted across the bay to land safely on a heap of expertly piled Banana boats..........allegedly....
