I get in to LHR one day and will take a flight to Geneva the next day. I want to leave a bag at the airport and pick it up a few days later when I return to stay in London.

Are there any stringent restrictions at the left-luggage place?

Can anyone suggest an inexpensive airport hotel for the night?

Travelodge in Feltham, you can get some really good rates 12-45 pounds, the hotel is fairly new. you can take the bus from Central Bus terminal which is accessable underground from T3-takes about 15 minutes and is a short walk to the hotel, (bus number 285?) it drops you off at Felthem Station and from there is super close, there is also an Asda in the same complex- nice to bring back some muchies.

There is a Hoppa service available to Terminals 1, 2 & 3, priced £4.50 each way (service runs every 40 minutes from 04.35am to 22.30, full timetable available at reception, Hoppa number H7). A free shuttle runs between the Heathrow airport terminals.

Preferential taxi rates also available for Travelodge Heathrow Central hotel customers – contact Hugh Damien (0208 897 0555). Travel from Terminals 1, 2 and 3 is £11 (£17 for a six seater car); Terminal 4 and 5 journeys are £15 (£22 for a six seater car)

Gentlemen

Thanks a lot for that very useful and detailed info. I arrive at T4 (etihad) and will leave on swiss (presumably T2), and you have given me all the info I will need. Free shuttle from T4 to T3 and thence by bus, taxi or hotel bus to Travelodge. Now to check rates and book the room....

You could always try www.holidayextras.com or www.booking.com to see what rates they give you on the same hotel. I usually have them book me into the Holiday Inn, it's around £52-57 for one night but it's only a 10 minute Hoppa bus ride and I like to stay close and easy.

If you are staying at the same hotel on your way back they should let you leave a bag there.

Depends where you want to go in town. The Paddington Express is a good service and gets you there in 15 minutes, otherwise the Underground from any of the terminals but can be a long ride.

It's also worth looking at some of the hotels on the Bath Road/A4, as they often have some deals available, it's worth noting that for the ones nearer to Heathrow you can use London Buses for free.

As Beano says, Jurys Inn is a good option and near the Underground if you want to hop into London.

On the Heathrow Express line there are actually two services, the actual express or Heathrow Connect that runs on the same lines but makes a few stops, it's a lot cheaper.

Very helpful suggestions. Thanks once again.

Just one note there is no Terminal 2 any more, so check your tickets for the correct terminal.

t4 has a walkway to the sheraton and a tube station in t4.might not be the cheapest but convenient

Just to clarify there is no Sheraton with a walkway at T4, the Sheraton's are on the Bath Road and require transport. There is a Hilton at T4 and might be convienient if you are travelling via T4, otherwise you would need to use the train to get to your terminal.

As 'sparky' indicates the T4 hotel is pretty expensive, propably more than 10,000 Baht a night, room only.

Feltham station has numerous trains to London Waterloo throughout the day. Average of 20 minutes into the centre of London, compared with 40 on the Piccadilly line.

some really helpful info on this thread...I dread going any where near Heathrow...

last summer I was there and used the express Paddington train a number of times and it is a good service...the tube ride is interminable and a huge hassle with baggage...

I stayed at the Holiday Inn at the airport once a few years ago and it was expensive, lots more than the GBP50 odd mentioned by another poster on this thread, more like GBP100+...nice clean comfortable rooms as you would expect but the reception staff regarded me like a fugitive that was featured on the late night beeb police notification show to notify regarding armed and dangerous men on the run...they weren't very friendly...

Tutsi

I have used the Holiday Inn at Heathrow (Bath Rd one) on a few occasions and have never paid more than £80, the rack rate is well in excess of £100 but the internet is your friend.

The Holiday Inn and most of the other Heathrow hotels are usually a lot cheaper if you book through one of the agents' sites I mentioned.

Factor in the waiting time, tube & train, same same on travel time.
